Talk:Deforestation in Haiti

is there really a link with the treaty with France? edit

The second paragraph mention the 1825 traty with France in a proeminent way, but I am not sure that there is any established link between this treaty and Haiti's deforestation. Especially since deforestation mostly took place during the XXth century. I added a citation needed tag for now, but if there is no source for this claim, it might be better to remove the whole paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.134.173.177 (talk) 19:50, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Disassociating the past colonial history to the current Haitian situation is a disservice and a lie. You should put the paragraph regarding the 1825 treaty back on the page. Here is a link to a research paper talking about the link between the deforestation and the french dept that:

"Following the revolution of 1804, the government was forced to export timber throughout the 19th century to pay off a 90 million franc indemnity to france." p. 4 (http://www.ncsu.edu/project/cnrint/Agro/PDFfiles/HaitiCaseStudy041903.pdf) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skhan1124 (talkcontribs) 18:07, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dynamics and impact edit

The historical assertions in the section rely exclusively on one source, geographer Nathan McClintock, who researches "[...] critical urbanism [...] political economy, race, class, and gender." He bases said assertions on one publication at researchgate.net, "Soil conservation in Haiti" (referenced as "Paskett and Philoctete, 1990") whose authors are not linked to any reliable source. --tickle me 03:18, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
