Comment edit

Efflux of what?! Defensin is a widely used generic term for antimicrobial peptides - also used for compounds found in invertebrate immune responses. This article needs a lot more added to it!

Protein structure edit

I would like to know from which structure the drawing was generated. Looking at the PDB I could only find one structure of HBD-2 and that one was a solution NMR structure. In addition, the dimer structure suggests that this beta-defensin would also exist in a dimer form which it does not to my knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meph333 (talkcontribs) 17:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject class rating edit

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 16:25, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

This page needs major reworking.
  • It has large omissions and contradictions.
  • The Varieties section does not make clear the current classifications of defensins, which are extremely varied in function.
  • The structures shown are difficult to interpret.
  • The Functions section is an odd assortment of examples, not particularly depending of the defensins as a whole
  • The Mimetics section is currently over-weighed for such a niche topic
I'll see if I can stay on some improvements in the near future. As always, any suggestions are welcome. T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo)talk 07:13, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Clarity needed in section 1.2 edit

In the second paragraph of section 1.2 (Cis-defensins), it says "...antimicrobial activities against both bacteria." I'm guessing this means "both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria" but I wonder if someone can clarify. The abstract of the article referenced says the study focused primarily on the antifungal actions of defensins, so I'm not sure where in that article it would have talked in depth about bacteria. @Lumberjane Lilly: Well noticed! I'd actually meant 'both bacteria and fungi' but must have gotten distracted with another sentence in the middle of editing, so there was definitely no way to guess. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 03:10, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
