Links to french articles

Since when do links within an article written in [your current chosen language] link to articles in any other language? This is true for the founder and key people in the info box. I was mildly disturbed by reaching a french article. That's the first time I saw this in more then a decade of using wikipedia. Is this really backed by any of wikipedias guidelines? I haven't found anything stating so while scanning over https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_policies_and_guidelines. So I'll remove those links for good until someone creates english translations of those articles.

I agree that this might not be the ideal situation (though it does seem allowed by the code, and the fifth pillar of Wikipedia is "Wikipedia has no firm rules"). My solution, then, is that shown on the Interlanguage Links help page: to use the {{illm}} template. Does that seem most suitable? --Akhenaten0 (talk) 15:43, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
