The information on the disaster comes from the official report by the Rail Inspectorate, and the Inquest in Chester. The article is based on the paper in the external link and a recent book (Disaster on the Dee, 2007. Peterlewis 21:12, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The official report is available on-line at The Victorian Archive (http://victoria.cdlr.strath.ac.uk). Unfortunately, it's not possible to directly link to the entire report, only individual pages; to find the report, do a search on "Dee Bridge 1847". Confusing sentence edit

"Although strong in compression, cast iron was known to be brittle in tension or bending, yet on the day of the accident the bridge deck was covered with track ballast to prevent the oak beams supporting the track from catching fire."

I don't see what relevance the bridge deck being covered with ballast has to the properties of cast iron. If the suggestion is that it was overloaded, it needs a citation. Can someone explain or change the sentence, please? 83.104.249.240 (talk) 03:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
