Colin Gardner death date

edit

The Colin Gardner article says July 3rd, this article says it was on the 5th. I couldn't determine from the source which one was right (although 5th does sound unlikely, as that was the date of the published article). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.226.113.12 (talk) 10:10, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Raoul Moat

edit

In view of the fact that Moat is only notable for being a convicted felon who employed the resources of five police forces and eventually shot himself, should he be included as a "notable person"? I noted that Derrick Bird was briefly allowed the celebrity of an entry, but was removed soon after when it became apparent that he was also only famous due to the circumstances of his own suicide. Maybe I am wrong, and that perhaps Moat and Bird did do something useful, interesting or important during their lives; otherwise, why do they get listed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.30.8.197 (talk) 13:02, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Notability does not mean you achieved something useful, interesting or important. Some pretty useless people are notable. We don't make judgments on the character of a person's notability. Are they in the news? Is the news significant and far-reaching? I'd say in this case, yes. freshacconci talktalk 14:00, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Its all over the news keep it in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moatoraoula (talkcontribs) 13:20, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • There's no reason for the information not to be there other than to be hyper-autistic and pedantic in typical Wikipedia fashion. You may find this insulting, but it's true. Normal people would just list it and be done with it. You're probably going to revert this now. Nothing is worse than people who are unable to engage in reasonable discussion and prefer censorship.--Abbie-oh-Genesis (talk) 13:16, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I must admit I didnot realise that an unregistered editor can remove an item. There you go, you learn something new every day. i do not agree with the removal. Edmund Patrick confer 13:29, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Anonymous IPs can pretty much do anything a registered editor can do on unprotected articles, but every editor needs to provide a justification for removing items and no editor should edit war. Having said that, I have no real opinion on this matter other than I tend to believe we can be a bit more flexible on the Death list when it comes to notability and red links and soft redirects are usually listed if referenced. This guy obviously achieved nothing in his miserable life but he is in the news and his death appears to be notable in the UK. I say leave it in. freshacconci talktalk 13:55, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I also think it should be kept. Raoul Moat may have been only notable for one (albeit prolonged) incident, and have no biographical entry (it's a redirect to 2010 Northumbria Police manhunt) but the qualifications for entry into Deaths in 2010 are not the same. He was not one of these people who are only known for the manner of their death, because he was prominent for a week while still alive. Sam Blacketer (talk) 14:13, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
The whole thing is the main news story here in the UK, and vistors to this site would probably expect to see a listing on the recent deaths too. Easily meets notability criteria and should remain on the recent death page unless a compelling argument that meets a consensus can be found to not have his name added. Lugnuts (talk) 16:14, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Unless he gets his own article page, the entry will most likely be deleted after one month. WWGB (talk) 03:07, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Why is Moat listed, but Bird is not? Bird shot many more people; if shooting people makes the killer notable, how can Moat be more notable than Bird? Jim Michael (talk) 00:45, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Anthony Rolfe Johnson

edit

Sources are divided about when he died. We list him here under 21 July, but his own article says 20 July; both dates are sourced. See my post @ Talk:Anthony Rolfe Johnson#Date of death. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 11:25, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lack from safety?

edit

Hello, during this week I noticed 2 fake deaths including Zsa Zsa Gabor's. I think this category is less and less protected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.9.91.252 (talk) 21:56, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Name has been added and article has been created. Feel free to add entries on your own, just use the other entries in the article as a model. Be bold! Alansohn (talk) 16:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
