Acknowledging dead criminals edit

why do we? who needs to know that some serial killer died today? he's no celebrity, he's filth.. a disgusting human! should get no recognition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcmlxxviii (talkcontribs) 19:17, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Longstanding consensus here is that these deaths are reported, and we do not apply judgments, we just report, without comment. That's why your edit will be reverted. Thanks. Rodhullandemu 19:21, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Inappropriate? edit

Why would it be inappropriate to add the most well-known gimmick of a wrestler's career in their little section? I did it, and it was reverted as 'inappropriate'? Two things

1. Why is this any different from Bina Rai, Vyacheslav Tikhonov, or Richard Todd? They all have well known roles added in there, why is Eddie Fatu any different.

2. Most people have no clue who Eddie Fatu is, but a lot more know who Umaga is. Rexfan2 (talk) 12:50, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

1. "Umaga" is a character or ring name. The people mentioned above are linked to films or television series, not to particular characters. Most wrestlers have numerous character names during their career. Umaga just happened to be the last one used by Eddie Fatu.
2. If that is true then you should consider a page move of the article title from Eddie Fatu to Umaga, in accordance with WP:NAME. WWGB (talk) 22:46, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Then why does this not constitute WP:OR? How do we go about working out what there most well-known role is? Rexfan2 (talk) 23:24, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Read that person's article, if it has been written. All those roles should be included. Ed (talk) 12:40, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Frank M. Coffin edit

I think the description for this man's death is too long. I think it should be renamed from "Frank M. Coffin, 90, American politician, U.S. Representative from Maine (1957–1961) and Judge on the Court of Appeals (1965–1989), complications following aortic aneurysm surgery." to "Frank M. Coffin, 90, American politician, complications following aortic aneurysm surgery." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andres arg (talkcontribs) 03:06, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

But then we would be removing Coffin's significant offices, which are included for every deceased politician on here. It seems less than satisfactory to remove these details, against page custom, just because of an aesthetic choice like the line being overly long. i'm for keeping it as it is. tomasz. 12:21, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Willie Maxine Perry edit

Does being someone's mother make them notable? I don't think so. I think this entry should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.187.128.99 (talk) 23:05, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Her article is tiny and was created after her death. It does not assert notability. If she's notable, the article should be expanded; if not, the article should be deleted along with her entry from this article. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 05:16, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I agree. The custom on this page is that heredity does not constitute notoriety. Ed (talk) 12:43, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The entry has been removed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.187.128.99 (talk) 15:55, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Restored for now. i personally agree with all of you about the lady's notability status, but now she has an article, we should at least wait for the AFD consensus. tomasz. 16:15, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Matthew Wrinkles edit

In the web source, Mr. Wrinkles goes by his middle name, Eric, not his first name Matthew. All other sources on the web have him known by his middle name as well. Ed (talk) 20:03, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Changed to Eric Wrinkles. Cheers, WWGB (talk) 03:37, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you :) Ed (talk) 15:50, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kenny Dino edit

I cannot confirm the death of Kenny Dino, the stage name of Kenneth Diono. The article gives only one citation. I don't know if it's reliable. I tried looking for Dino or Diono in Google, but the only hit is the same one as the one in the article. I put a citation needed for the description of his death. Ed (talk) 20:07, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reference is here - [1] - which I find is ultra-reliable. Presumably you need the New York Times or somesuch ?! Derek R Bullamore (talk) 01:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Brittany Murphy edit

The cause of death for Brittany Murphy is incorrectly listed as heart failure. The correct cause of death, as widely cited in the many news articles about the incident, is cardiac arrest.

Heart failure and cardiac arrest are not the same thing.

I would correct this but the page is protected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaveCEO (talkcontribs) 00:58, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cardiac arrest is a process rather than a cause. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 01:04, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The cause of death does not appear to be known, and probably won't be known definitively until after the autopsy. Cardiac arrest can cause death, but other factors can cause both cardiac arrest and death. Moreover, the causality can be somewhat reversed: Somebody might die for an unknown reason, and as a result of having died, will flatline on an EKG. Cosmic Latte (talk) 01:21, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cardiac arrest may be a process, but heart failure is a specific condition, not and absolutely never under any circumstance whatsoever a catch-all for "heart condition". If I could make one change in Wikipedia it would be to permanently and forever prevent people by any means humanly possible using "heart failure" to mean "heart-related disease process". Calling Murphy's death "heart failure" is from what we know exactly, exactly as accurate as calling an asthma death "lung cancer". --NellieBly (talk) 01:17, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Del St. John edit

A bit embarrassing, but hockey player Del St. John died on December 18, 2009, but I can't post the link to his death on the main page because it has square brackets in the URL and I don't know how to have the Wiki markup bypass them: http://www.erstebankliga.at/8f234634abc92fd30763c1e63b89d9bf.html?arrSave[ArticleID]=4819. Anyone know how to do it? Cheers, CP 01:07, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Done; replaced the [ and ] with %5B and %5D, respectively. matt (talk) 11:15, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I've learned something today! Cheers, CP 04:05, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done but he died on the 19th. WWGB (talk) 11:04, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Robin Wood (critic) edit

The great film critic Robin Wood died on Friday (the 18th), and his death has been widely reported on film-related websites. He will be having obituaries in the British press shortly, one of which I have written. I added a notice of his death to the relevant section of this list yesterday, but it seems to have been removed. Could someone reinstate it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.27.240.245 (talk) 12:18, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

How do we know the first ref is him, rather than another man with the same name? The second ref is a blog, and hence not reliable. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 22:01, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The age matches that of the actor, and donations are to an actors' charity. Equity does not allow two actors to be known professionally with the same name, so we have a high probability of accuracy. Philip Cross (talk) 10:00, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Masahiko Shimura edit

He's listed twice.TunaSushi (talk) 18:24, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
