is it possible to use cover images of the books to spice up this page? are they fair use images? --- Khernitz 00:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Variations edit

It's perhaps worth noting that the first book of this series differed greatly from all the rest. In book 1, RJC is more of a Mack Bolan rip-off: he's going against the Mafia and there's a strong hint that some vengeance motive is involved. That changed dramatically with book 2. This series is also interesting in that the author(s) started making extensive use of footnotes after the first few books (not sure when...I think around book 17 or so) to try to add some "factual" tones to the stories. The occult and space aliens overtones also became very heavy around book 30, and at least two books turn on RJC and his colleagues actually finding alien ruins/remains. This series was a real oddity in the wave of action heroes that came out in the 1970s and 1980s, and it's a shame there isn't more information on it.Intothatdarkness (talk) 16:59, 11 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notability? edit

Considering that the Death Merchant was one of the longest-running of the "men's action" series of the 1980s-1990s, I'd say it's notable. This genre was one of the major popular paperback staples during this period.Intothatdarkness (talk) 16:13, 8 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I tagged it because there are no indepedent sources on the entire article. Also my quick search didn't come up with any. If it is notable then we should be able to find independent reliable sources that discuss the series. GB fan (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've done a quick (and I stress quick) sweep of some academic databases and didn't come up with anything. Of course this genre wasn't the subject of huge literary scrutiny. If you're going to tag this article, I'd suggest you add Mack Bolan, all associated spin-offs, and many of the Nick Carter sub-articles as well (and that's just a starting list). There's a blog that covers many of these http://postmodernpulps.blogspot.com/, however. It might also be wise to separate this from the Fantasy Task Force, and the DM series certainly isn't fantasy.Intothatdarkness (talk) 17:06, 8 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
