Political signifcance? edit
This film is curently showing on BBC4 (UK) as part of a tribute to the director. It is a film about institutionalised persecution of a minority perceived as 'different', with sub-plots of love and hate, loyalty and betrayal, of using the larger situation for personal advantage... ...and it is made and released in Nazi-occupied Denmark, in 1943. Has there been a study of the director's intention here? of the immediate reaction to the film?
Not wishing to open a can of OR worms, but if there has been such a critical appraisal, it should be mentioned in this article.

This article is incomplete and needs to be expanded in more detail than what it currently has. The article is missing information on the film's theatrical and home media releases which needs to be added to the article with the proper citations. Both the production and reception sections of the article are too short and need to be expanded in more detail with proper citations given for its information.
