Talk:David Litchfield

c|net news.com article - Based on his comments regarding Mac OS X in that article, I am not so sure people should be taking this guy seriously. He outright recommends Vista, a brand new operating system that has not been in the wild long enough to be proven secure, over Mac OS X. Mac OS X has been in use by the general public and businesses for a long time and doesn't suffer from anywhere near the number of security issues that Windows does. You're referring to security issues in pre-Vista versions of Windows, whereas Litchfield is specifically recommending Vista. While it hasn't yet had the exposure that Mac OS X or previous versions of Windows have had, it is clear from low-level analysis that Microsoft have eliminated the possibility of many formerly possible attacks. Even techniques Litchfield himself describes in his papers, such as exploiting the structured exception handling mechanism, are useless against Vista. It's also worth pointing out that he's speaking strictly from a security point of view, and is not commenting on useability. Isvara 15:52, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
