Personality edit

If we allow "widely considered to be arrogant" do we have to add "widely considered to be humble" to every profile for humble people? Is it relevant at all? -- Response to above - we shouldn't say that he is arrogant without a reference, because this is an encyclopedia; but as most programmers know (notice how I'm not putting this in the article) Hansson is a jack ass. So it is a genuine part of his personality. This is a biography page so it should describe him. Leaving no reference to his real personality is like having an article on Einstein without ever saying that he's smart. So I see no reason why if someone could find some reference that it shouldn't be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.41.144.77 (talk) 14:20, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

Removed it. If someone wants to say who considers him arrogant and why, that would be worth keeping.

Consider the eyewitness testimony of Tim Bray, one of the fathers of XML, who saw DHH speak, and personally admit to being arrogant before jovially insulting the audience: [1] 70.177.56.182 20:14, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

"eyewitness testimony"? You should read what Tim Bray actually says: "David Heinemeier Hansson is rude and arrogant. At least that’s what he claimed in his keynote... Only having conversed with David once, for about thirty seconds, I have no personal opinion as to whether he’s just putting it on for effect." Chrisahn 01:29, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

"For 2007 he predicted that 'the disgrace of being a web programmer still using Windows will increase'." is ok, and is cited but the following sentance "This statement didn't win him many friends." seems a bit opinionated and inappropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danembraceddc (talkcontribs) 07:32, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The fact that Wikipedia is a host for attacks on people in their biographical articles is disgraceful. Of course DHH has haters, he's rich and successful. Remove the attacks on DHH. 72.174.126.254 (talk) 04:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I agree with the above. Arrogance is subjective. How is this different from saying "widely considered to be beautiful"? And who considers him to be arrogant? Was there a poll? Or are you going to cite one guy's word for it? It sounds to me like this does not belong on Wikipedia. Amnion (talk) 21:55, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

do we have a better picture of him?

Does anybody know what he studied at the CBS? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.76.19.17 (talk) 10:49, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

David received a "Bsc in Business Administration and Computer Science", also referred to as the "HA(dat) program". Program description at http://uk.cbs.dk/uddannelser/bachelor/bacheloruddannelser/ha_dat —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.226.45.152 (talk) 09:26, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
... and I just added it to the article. Not sure if I did it wiki style. If a source is needed, I dug up this post from his blog where he admits it himself: http://web.archive.org/web/20040806025047/www.loudthinking.com/arc/000242.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.226.45.152 (talk) 09:41, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
He also said in an interview in 2006: Just as Fox should have let The X-Files end with dignity around season 7, so should programmers let Java retire from the spotlight of web applications in dignity., [2].
I found many sources about his so-called "arrogance" (first is wired). I think it should be kept here. Besides, he seems to love to be called like that and even play on that in his keynotes). Hervegirod (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
You can't produce a reference stating that someone is arrogant - only that the writer thinks they are arrogant. Arrogance is not an objectively measurable or binary property. You can probably find sources stating that such-and-such a person is an arsehole, but that doesn't in itself mean that their opinion should be included in Wikipedia. For example, I just did a web search for "dick cheney" +asshole and found quite a number of "sources", including some newspaper articles. However, the Dick Cheney article makes no mention of him being an asshole (even though he may well be one). At the very least, I think the "arrogant" section should be toned down slightly to more acceptably state that Hansson is a (purposely?) controversial character. I'd do it, but I know nothing about him and it's 3:35 am so I'd do a rubbish job of it anyway. Destynova (talk) 02:35, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dead link edit

I can't access the link in the page: http://www.loudthinking.com/arc/000489.html , does somebody has an updated link? I have removed that link as it is dead. Shabda 12:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

And do we really need all those links? Shabda 12:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

waste of space. not required a separate article. Light2021 (talk) 21:36, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not so, this is the type of information page we search for when introducing ourselves to companies new to us. I was reading about Garmin GPS routing features when a comment was posted about being used in conjunction with BaseCamp. This page could be expanded to explain their functions, hard to decipher from their .com pages. We need basic info on what these tens of thousands of companies are doing noways with all of the software expansion. bill clemens — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.215.242.213 (talk) 03:48, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
