Puff piece edit

This article is WAAAAAY too long for someone of marginal notability. It needs to be seriously pruned of fluff and unimportant and unencyclopedic content. -Exucmember (talk) 20:59, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Member of Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church edit

David Eaton is a member of Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, and almost his entire musical career is set in that context. Someone who added a lot of useful references deleted this important fact with no explanation, perhaps in an attempt to hide it from the public. He said himself that he "has worked in the performing arts in the Unification Church for 32 years". Reference: Witnessing Summit, New York-New Jersey, David Eaton, January 14, 2008.

References edit

Certain references (the New York Daily News reviews, e.g.) do refer to the sponsorship of the Unification movement and its founder as this information was made available in the program booklets for these concerts and the reviewer made note of that. 96.224.32.227 (talk) 19:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It should be noted that in certain concert programs by the NYCS that were reviewed in the New York Music press (including the NY Times and NY Post) where the UC sponsorship was cited in the program booklets, the music critics chose not to make mention of that fact in their reviews. 96.224.32.227 (talk) 19:49, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Funding for NYCS edit

I put the UC ties to NYCS in a footnote.

I believe funding sources for artistic bodies are not ordinarily mentioned with mention of the orchestra, museum, or whatever (unless they are sponsors trying to get attention, like the Staples Center or something like that.)

As such though the UC is an unusually interesting group, there should be consistency with convention. The UC should neither be hidden nor excessively paraded.

The NYCS is a small group of serious and conscientious artists trying to pursue careers as symphony musicians. As a difficult career, they have to take work where they can get it. Some might be grateful for Moon's patronage that gives them a place to play, some may resent it. But the NYCS is not part of the UC, not an orchestra made up of or for UC members. It's ties to the UC should be treated in ways similar to funding ties for the thousands of other art vehicles that rely on patronage to survive. Mybesteffort (talk) 16:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Footnote 1 needs more information edit

Someone knowledgeable should put in the year Moon bought/rescued the NYCS, and should put up the percentage-funding breakdown for the orchestra. Mybesteffort (talk) 16:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

References missing especially for the intro paragraph edit

Almost the entire introductory paragraph needs references. The absence of verification is especially glaring in the opening section of this article. Mybesteffort (talk) 16:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

parenthetic information about funding edit

I removed this:

" (which has received funding from several of Rev. Moon's organizations, primarily from the International Cultural Foundation.)"

from the biographical section, because it should already have been put in the footnotes when the organization is first mentioned. Mybesteffort (talk) 17:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

more parenthetical info edit

Removed this:

"(a professional ensemble founded in 1926)."

Put this in the original info and explanation about the NYCS when NYCS is first introduced in the article Mybesteffort (talk) 17:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone deleted his headshot, apparently because of incorrect licensing or tagging. These should be uploaded again, with "free" licensing. --Uncle Ed (talk) 22:34, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
