"Nothing but..." Removal edit

I removed the fact 'Every Friday and Saturday Dave has a "Nothing but...", which is themed to only one programme running for the entire evening.' because I am watching Dave right now and the lineup is:

5pm: Top Gear 6pm: Ray Mears's [sic] Extreme Survival 7pm: Dragons' Den 8pm: Fifth Gear 8.30pm: Fifth Gear 9pm: QI

and so on... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.29.85.20 (talk) 17:05, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Sadff.gif edit

Image:Sadff.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dave edit

Just as a note; When UKTV G2 changes to Dave, the content should possibly be moved to Dave (TV channel), which is currently a redirect page to UKTV G2. TubularWorld 14:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that makes sense. Have UKTV G2 redirect there. Prking68 15:17, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why? edit

Does anybody know why it changed from UKtvG2 to Dave? I cant really see the point of it because everything is same, including the font of the channel name in the top left corner so I'm lost as to why this has happened. any news anyone? Prem4evaTalk 23:42, 15 October 2007

The BBC reported that "the new name is based on the idea that 'everyone knows a bloke called Dave'." and that "Changing the channel name to Dave enables us to create a strong and noisy personality for the channel that immediately aligns us with our core 16-34 male audience." (By the way, you need to add a closing sup tag to your signature!) -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 09:05, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmm that's an assumption as I don't. 109.155.77.238 (talk) 18:33, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It may be coincidence, but the channel's onscreen ident saying Dave is in the same font as the cover art of Will Self's novel, The Book of Dave.

Wrong "previous bandwidth occupier" edit

The previous channel on Freeview (in North Wales at least) was UKTV History, rather than UKTV G2.

Please confirm, and if neccesary, change.

Same here. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 12:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just tried to add that Dave is on the channel on which UKTV History was formerly on but I was reverted. The UKTV History website says "If History appears on channel 19 (and you can see Dave on channel 12) then you also need to rescan your box. ". Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 20:13, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Dave takes the space and hours of UKTV History and UKTV History takes the old UKTV Bright Ideas space. Whether you are talking about the channel number or channel bandwidth. --AxG @ talk 20:18, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
This section reads awkwardly, Why do we need to mention what happened to UKTV History? Surely that is something for the UKTV History article. Prking68 15:35, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Because in reality Dave replaced UKTV history and they just swapped channel numbers over. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 01:23, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Continuity Announcers edit

How can you verify that Iain Lee announces for Dave? I've never, ever heard him on Dave. I've only heard Ralph and Phill. -- Ehh Mon Ehh 07:03, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

We can't verify ANY of the announcers. If you listen during the week from about 7:00PM to 10:00PM you'll hear Iain Lee. Having said that, I've been concerned for a while that mentions of ANY of the announcers is original research unless we can find reliable sources. -- JediLofty UserTalk 09:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I remember that Iain confirmed on one of his Absolute Radio shows that he had done a few intros for them - I'm not sure if the podcasts are still available though - and someone would have to listen to a lot to find the quote... Itsfini (talk) 09:36, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Official parody edit

Wondered if this is worth mentioning in the article- at least 3 BBC shows now (Mock the Week, Top Gear and Harry and Paul) have taken shots at Dave's love of repeats and how the episodes in question will one day be treated as such once they reach the channel. One such quote from Top Gear has even been used in recent adverts for the show on the channel.--HellCat86 (talk) 18:32, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is It Bill Bailey? edit

It seems that Dave isn't going to be showing this anymore. The advert has stopped, it isn't in any TV guides, and the website has remove any mention of the show.

'Created by the BBC' edit

Dave have now started announcing BBC produced programmes as 'created by the BBC, chosen by Dave'. They say this now for nearly every single BBC produced programme but I can't find any source stating any reason why. Alexsutton (talk) 12:20, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dave is owned by UKTV, which is 50% owned by the BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC. If I wasn't so ridiculously hungover I'd make this clearer in the article. Maybe tomorrow. cya Coolug (talk) 19:09, 7 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Original content edit

Dave has started to produce a number of original programmes exclusive to the channel, for example Argumental and Batteries Not Included. Perhaps it would be a good idea to list these separately from the other current programming on Dave as they are unique to the channel. Andy1704 (talk) 18:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dave DOG edit

"During the airing of the Red Dwarf miniseries the Dave DOG in the top left corner of the screen had the word 'Lister' added after it in the same font after the show's lead character"

Either the show was aired multiple times with different DOGs or this is made up. I just checked and the DOG on the copy of Red Dwarf I have says "Dave Brand New". 121.44.201.39 (talk) 13:41, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it said 'Dave Lister' when I watched it. Maybe they didn't use that DOG again after the initial broadcast. Zestos (talk) 15:19, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Repeats of programmes edit

Why oh why does Dave constantly repeat programmes. I enjoy QI in particular and most other Dave comedy shows but I am heartily sick of the constant repeats. There are many QI shows that have not been televised so do the viewers a favour and buy some more - soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grandpar (talkcontribs) 23:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why oh why do posters constantly talk as if they're talking to the PEOPLE running the service/company/etc that the article refers to? I enjoy this article in particular and most other articles on Wikipedia but I am heartily sick of the stupid inane posts in the talk pages about rubbish like this. There are many questions that have not been asked or things that have not been said, although sadly this is not one of them, so do the world a favour and direct your questions to the relevant parties, and NOT to an encyclopaedia audience who have nothing to do with programming on Dave. 87.194.86.204 (talk) 00:47, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Current Programming edit

I have noticed under the Current Programming section that three particular shows are omitted from the listing. Namely, Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: VOY and Star Trek: DS9.

Any particular reason for this, or was it something that didn't seem to pop up any time on the person who was editing it's mind?

92.15.2.145 (talk) 18:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dave, formerly known as UKTV G2 and UK Gold...hard to imagine how any Star Trek shows would be shown on a channel that prides itself on UK TV programming. If anyone can find verifiable evidence that the shows have been on Dave, it should be added. If everyone finds NO evidence, the IP address of the above poster should be blacklisted by everyone :-) 87.194.86.204 (talk) 00:50, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good to see the explanation edit

It is good to see that this article explains why Dave Ja Vu broadcasting hours on freeview have been reduced. I do not know how long this will last - after all, the channel called Yesterday (TV channel) was at one time not accessible on freeview after 6 pm, but this appears to have changed now. Dave and Freeview launch edit

Who's mindlessly tagging this article? In the "Dave and Freeview launch" I noticed THIS:

"In June 2009, the logo was updated to incorporate the 'circle' logo branding of all the new UKTV channels (for example Blighty, and Really). At this time,[when?] the voice of Dave became Nigel Grover, aka, Scott Saunders, who had previously worked at a number of local radio stations."

Note the [when?] tag in there? Well tagger, if you just read back to the start of the previous sentence you will see "In June 2009...", which believe it or not is the answer. Stop blindly tagging things and read things properly first.86.177.39.89 (talk) 20:02, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article Contradicts itself edit

Can someone please explain to me why the article says "In April 2014, the 'circle' logo was removed and the original 2007 logo was restored." and the 'circle' logo is shown in the top right hand corner of the page? Ezza1995 (talk) 14:24, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

In 2007, the original logo was just the 'Dave' wordmark, and then, when the other UKTV channels relaunched most of them adopted circle logos, and thus Dave also added a circle to its logo, however idents remained using just the wordmark. Then this year, Dave got a new look and the circle was history. As for the logo in the infobox, it's probable that know one updated it, which I have just done now. -- [[ axg //  ]] 14:57, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Current announcer? edit

OK, I think I sometimes hear some leftover or fill-in VOs by Ineson, but mostly it's some other more southerly accented, somewhat more frantic chap doing it, who's appeared on-camera only once or twice during some sponsored trails (for whom, I can't even remember...). Anyone know who he is?

Also I've finally got round to copying off some old PVR recordings to DVD from either side of the UKTV-xyz -> Drama, Alibi, GOLD, etc switchover, and there's someone else entirely doing a few of the late night announcements including the closedown. Doesn't sound like this fella, nor does it match with how I remember Iain Lee or Greg James sounding (gee, are they picking VOAs purely by whether they have surnames that can also be forenames?). So that's two mystery voices out of six, now...

(It could, at a stretch, be Jupitus speaking in a rather softer tone than his usual on-screen voice, but I think it's mainly the accent that's similar rather than anything else) 87.114.181.248 (talk) 00:23, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Planned rebrand of UKTV services in Summer 2024 resulting in renaming of services with "U&" prefix edit

According to a news item on the UKTV corporate website,

"UKTV announces creation of ‘U’ - a new brand to unite its free TV and digital portfolio".

If this takes place as planned in Summer 2024, "Dave" will be renamed to "U&Dave", and similarly for the other services "Drama", "Yesterday", and "W", which will also be prefixed with "U&".

Will the "Dave" page be renamed in accordance with this and is this even possible in view of the required presence of the special character viz. "ampersand" in the page name?

~~ 88.207.141.166 (talk) 21:59, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

If the name gains consensus then yes. As for the ampersand, that is fine to be used on article titles, only # < > [ ] { } | can't be used. -- AxG /   22:42, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
