Hi- I've added some links and edited a few sections of the page in order to address recent flagging about notoriety, recentism and creating additional categories. (from April 2016).

1. This project was initially funded by the US National Science Foundation in August 2009, and again in October 2014, so it is more recent in general. I've added links to the initial grant to give some context to the dates.

2. Addressing notoriety: this is a large-scale funded project that involves scientific research data from many scientists in the US and around the globe. It is fairly well known in the environmental and ecological science domains, as well as the research data, scholarly communication, and cyberinfrastructure worlds. There are more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific and research publications that reference this project, as of May 2016. I think this meets the question of notoriety.

3. I've added an additional category for organizational purposes.
