Etymology edit

The word is most certaily not Turkic, but of Persian origin. It derives from Middle Persian hw’n /xwān/ and ist related to Avestan xᵛaini, both meaning "carpet, cloth" (see also Haft-Xwān-e Rostam, "seven feasts/camps of Rostam", where the word xwān has again the meaning of "camping", "picnic"). The additional dastār strengthens its meaning as "table-cloth", "meal-setting". 2003:C4:B735:1392:A115:C049:42A9:9F05 (talk) 17:53, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
