Title

edit

Just to say that the title appears to be "Dark Matter" not "Dark*Matter". The star does not appear in official book or game listings, though it is included on a few fan sites. DJ Clayworth 13:49, 7 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

That's not true. Many online stores don't use it, because the actuall character isn't easily available. The actual symbol used is the ellipse but most people use the asterisk as the ellipse isn't availbe on most keyboards. The rule book uses Dark*Matter all throughout the text, with the exception of it using the ellipse instead of the asterisk. This is the reason the asterisk is used on most fan sites. Wikipedia policy is generally to avoid emulating any purely typographic effects and punctuation marks used in titles of works. Consider that the books also write the title in small caps; this does not somehow result in us writing the RPG name in small caps every time it appears in the article. See MOS:TITLE#Typographic effects and MOS:CONFORMTITLE (as well as the linked section at MOS:CONFORM). For instance, we write "Alien 3 is a 1992 film [...]" - or, in the lead section of the article, we may note the official/traditional stylization as well: "Alien 3 (stylized as ALIEN3) is a 1992 film [...]" - but we don't write "ALIEN3 is a 1992 film [...]". The same is true of the article title. As such, I'm going to propose that the page be moved to Dark Matter (role-playing game) (the parenthetical is for disambiguation), but I'll do so in a new section given that this conversation is 15 years old and touches on a mostly unrelated point. Hoffmann Institute

edit

Re: The hoffman institute: while all the published adventures contain hooks for hoffman institute players, it is by no means required to be in that organization to play. The institute could be completely removed from the game without adverse consequence (save making more work for the GM). 24.252.10.228 18:12, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Dark Matter Cover.jpg

edit

Image:Dark Matter Cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed move to "Dark Matter (role-playing game)"

edit

As such, I'm proposing that the page be moved to Dark Matter (role-playing game) (the parenthetical is for disambiguation). This approach is consistent with many other articles about media that choose to include non-standard punctuation and typographical marks in the stylized versions of their titles, and the parenthetical matches a number of other RPGs that require such disambiguation.
