Untangling the various meanings

I have just had a(nother) go at untangling a pretty confused story. There is clearly no close connection between (1) the Irish and (2) the Hebrew and (3) the Khmer versions of the name, and the recently introduced idea (now deleted) that there is a "most accepted" meaning is obvious nonsense, in that context. Beautiful?

I'm a Dara, and my mom told me that it's also some derivation of African for "Beautiful." Can anyone verify this? Also, may we have a list of famous Daras, such as Dara Torres? Cool :) Hamstergirl591 20:42, 23 July 2008

Hi Dara/Hamstergirl - Not sure about that meaning. Can you find a source for it? if so, please add it to the article. The list of Daras is at Dara (disambiguation). Not sure if that's the best way to do it. Maybe the list should be moved here - but anyway, for the moment, I have added Dara Torres to the list there, and amended the note at the top of Dara in an attempt to make it clearer. Dara is boys name in kurdistan and means wealthy and wise in kurdish languge I am a Dara from Nigeria. Hi Dara/Hamstergirl591: Dara in the African Yoruba language means "beautiful," "gorgeous," "good," "awesome" or "perfect." For reference purpose, in the Bible book of Genesis 1:31, giving a concluding summary to the seven days of creations, God is said to look at all He has created,"and behold it was very good." In Yoruba Bible translation of that verse, "good" is rendered "dara." Considering that context alone explains the depth, the connotation and denotation of the word "Dara" in Yoruba. I don't think Chinese is a language, Do you mean Mandarin, or Cantonese? Also, as far as a person who lived in china for several years, I don't think I know a Chinese(at least in Mandarin) word that has the 'R' sound in it. --Rezasanat (talk) 14:44, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Intro section

The page intro only focuses on the Indian origin. This seems inappropriate - the intro is better suited as a summary of the information in the rest of the article, and the rest of the article does not even mention the Indian origin.

Hebrew name meaning

As a speaker of Hebrew, I have never used the word Dara to mean anything other than "she dwelled". I have been unable to find any uses of the word as described online. Persian Reference

I'm a Persian and a native speaker, and I really don't think when I'm reading about Dara on WIKI , specially on a page where the topic is with regards to the 'name' itself, the doll Sara and Dara should be referenced.

I do know that those dolls are famous but they are not why the name Dara or even Sara for that matter are famous. I know that Dara might not be a super famous name, but as an example to what I mean, just imagine referring to the Dolls on the Sarah page under Persian name references.

The editor/contributor might have been a girl or a millennial kid... but this reference to the dolls are not doing justice to the historic name of Dara! Please remove this reference and at least refer to Shahnameh where the name Dara is more famously mentioned. Saying Dara in Persian is associated with the trade mark name of a line of products is like saying you have never heard of Shahname! What's next? This page is a mess. The grammar is poor, its purpose is unclear, it lacks sources, and it is cluttered.
