Talk:Dandruff/Archives/2018

Mayoclinic.org

Often gives overly simple and unsupported content. For example here https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dandruff/symptoms-causes/syc-20353850

Under causes it says "not shampooing often enough".

We have the AADA which is a better source which says "Many people believe that dandruff is caused by poor hygiene, but this is not true. Although infrequent shampooing can make dandruff more obvious, researchers are still studying the causes, which appear to be complex." https://www.aad.org/public/diseases/hair-and-scalp-problems/dandruff-how-to-treat

In fact mayo references aad but appears to misquote them. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:39, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

It's a sort of last-resort source; okay for the obvious and/or when nothing else is available. Otherwise, avoid. This would seem to be one of those cases where it's best avoided. Alexbrn (talk) 20:01, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
agree w/ both Doc James and Alexbrn--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 20:51, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree with Alex: It's okay for basic information, and it is not to be used when it is contradicted by better sources. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:31, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree that it's generally unnecessary to use it when better/more in-depth open-access sources are available. It's okay for very basic information. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 22:42, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
Agree with TylerDurden8823 and the others. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 23:05, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
best to avoid. We discussed this at WT:MEDRS here. Jytdog (talk) 23:40, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
