Talk:Dama Dam Mast Qalandar

Questionable material edit

What sense does this make: "Jhoolay Laal refers to Laal Shabaz Qalandar himself, though it is now proven that Jhuley Lal in the song refers to the Hindu God " Jhuley Lal " who is supposed to be an Incarnation of the River (here Indus) God Varuna and revered deity of the Sindhis." --Sarabseth (talk) 02:28, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Who wrote this song? edit

Neither of the two cited sources says anything about the authorship of this song. The following assertions are entirely unsourced:

"It is a kalaam in Punjabi by Sufi Saint Baba Bulleh Shah, written a few centuries ago in honour of the most revered Sufi Saint of Sindh, Shahbaz Qalandar of Sehwan Sharif, District Jamshoro , Pakistan, who worked for the unity of Hinduism and Islam in what is now Sindh Province in Pakistan. ... It is said that the kalaam/qawwali was adapted from the original prayer by Amir Khusrow and was then modified completely by Bulleh Shah. Apparently, Bulleh Shah gave an entirely different colour to the qawwali and added verses in praise of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Bulleh Shah's version of the qawwali gives it a large tint of Sindhi culture."

As a long-time deeply devoted fan of qawwali, I have never heard this claim before. If it cannot be supported, it should be removed. --Sarabseth (talk) 02:33, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Removing this questionable and unsupported claim. --Sarabseth (talk) 21:31, 10 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
