Climate edit

Hi,

Could you tell me the reference of the climate data? The precipitation is quite bizarre.

Thanks

Climate chart edit

I put here the climate chart since it's bogus. No places on Earth (not even Arica) has an average of 0 mm/in of precipitation every month. Besides the monthly averages are unreferenced and, strange enough for Ethiopia, in Fahrenheit degrees.

I hope someone can find the actual monthly averages for Dallol.--Carnby (talk) 23:29, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think it's more likely that the mining station just didn't bother to measure precipitation. The climate data that's on the page now is sourced to "D.E. Pedgley, "Air Temperature at Dallol, Ethiopia," Meteorological Magazine v.96 (1967): 265-271" but is vastly different than what actually appears in that journal (if online reprodictions can be trusted.) I think it's unlikely that a station so close to places such as Massawa, Eritrea would have so little difference in temperature between months. I think the data above is actually correct, though it didn't come from Weatherbase unless Weatherbase temporarily copied in Pedgley's data and then deleted it. That could potentially explain the "zeroes" in the rainfall records, if Weatherbase or some other intermediary misinterpreted lack of data as records of no precipitation. Also note the humidity values are ridiculously high for a station in the Sahara Desert.Soap 22:44, 23 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
As for why it's in Fahrenheit, I suspect it was a US or other foreign company running the station, as Ethiopia itself would have little use for a weather station there. Soap 22:51, 23 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Further proof of why the data in the article now is incorrect is that it was put in by Special:Contributions/94.250.32.192, whose only contributions from that IP were to add false climate data to various articles. Soap 02:47, 24 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ive removed the climate chart now. Soap 17:59, 28 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
