Question about date of Dale Mitchell's final major league appearance

Dale Mitchell's last MLB appearance was as a pinch hitter in game seven of the 1956 Word Series, which occured in the middle of October. The info box gives his last MLB appearance as September 26, 1956, which was before the series started. Does last MLB appearance refer to the regular season or the World Series? His last major league appearance should be the date of game seven of the 1956 World Series.
