Zambeze? edit

As a resident of Madagascar, besides the several names spelled wrong, I'd like to ask about the inclusion of "Zambeze River Valley" in the province of Toamasina while actually it's located in neighbouring Mozambique, thousands of miles from Toamasina. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.192.46.187 (talk) 13:22, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes. The reference about Zambezia is wrong. The reference says about the 2008 Zambeze River Valley flood, which was not caused by Ivan. Ramisses (talk) 16:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move to Cyclone Ivan (2008) edit

This probrably should have been done earlier, but because the name Ivan was used for 5 other storms worldwide, including another cyclone in 1979, should we give this one the Year disambiguator just like we did with Cyclone Nisha (2008)? Rye998 (talk) 14:28, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Maybe, but the 1979 one doesn't have an article, and this Ivan is known far more than the other one. Nisha, on the other hand, wasn't particularly well-known, and was used in the following year in another basin. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 05:53, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
The 1979 System was just a fishspinner which even the creationists in this project would agree doesn't warrant an article.Jason Rees (talk) 07:33, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I know SWIO names are used once only, but because another cyclone was given this name in the SHem, I believe we should distinguish them by year. Even so, the name Ivan was also used for 3 North Atlantic storms and one WPac Super Typhoon in 1997 as well, so because it has been used many times, I believe we should group this one with it's year, exept for the 2004 hurricane which was retired and is the most well-known Ivan overall. There is no "Primary Topic" for SWIO storms in general because there usually isn't any other storm to refer to. This storm was one of a few SWIO names to be used in other basins, and because of that, I believe we should group it with the (2008). Rye998 (talk) 18:00, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
IDK, the only other storm with the name Ivan was a nothing storm. This Ivan is still the best-known one. If names could've been retired in the SWIO, this one surely would have. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:05, 12 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, so you're saying this is the most notable cyclone named Ivan? A "hurricane" and a "cyclone" are two names for the same thing, but even though this one could be distinguished from "Hurricane Ivan", if two or more storms in different tropical cyclone basins are given the same name, I like them distinguished by year unless one or more of them has been retired, as was the case with the 2004 hurricane. However, I can also agree that it is highly unlikely that Ivan will be used for another storm in the future that is a "cyclone". If the name is used for another SPac storm, ect, in the future that is as bad as this one, we could move it by then, if we won't move this one right now. Rye998 (talk) 02:19, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's exactly my point. There have been typhoons and hurricanes named Ivan, but this is the most notable cyclone named Ivan. If another one comes along, then this should be moved. It's just per WP conventions, how disambiguators aren't needed if one topic stands out more than the others. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:45, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Another cyclone more notable than this one at least. If it is used in the SPac in the future for a cyclone that is as bad as this one, we can move it by then. Rye998 (talk) 04:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
