Monoplane v. # of sets of wings edit

When I read that the X-19A was a monoplane with two sets of wings, I was surprised. As far as I know, a monoplane has only one set of wings. --Born2flie (talk) 15:20, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

the answer may be is: with the term "biplane" you denominate what in german is called "double-decker": two wings above each other. so some may use the term monoplane to distinguish single-layered wings from double-layered ones. in that sense a tandem wing is a monoplane... --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 14:04, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

"program cancelled" - why? edit

any ideas why the program was cancelled? was there a basic disadvantage to the tandem design?? thank you! --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 14:04, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
