Why a stub?

Why a stub? Well, because this page can still use a fair amount of work to flesh it out and to restructure it... But if you think it good enough too go, and if I'm too lazy to revise, then we don't need to revert. Still a stub

This article is still terribly brief and off target. Unless norwegian culture is naught but traditional cooking and stuff. how 'bout music (trad and modern), film, theatre, poetry, visual arts..? I'll see what I can do. Ehjort 19:39, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I just made a major edit(still a stub though) with some restructuring, rewriting and adding images. In the process, this sentence didn't seem to fit in anywhere, so I just removed it:

"And these traditions are continued in today's Norwegian films, festivals, and museums."

If anyone thinks it's a loss, the category links might be added back in under "See also"... erikD 16:13, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Not Joining the EU

I got here by reading about the EU and how Norway is not a member... one fear being that Norwegian culture would be destroyed, so I clicked the link.. what was so special about Norwegian culture that they couldn't keep theirs while an EU member, while the French are still, uh, very French... ? I can't really see how that is. Is there a Norwegian who can add those reasons to this article (seems the political parties are always arguing about it on TV)? It seems pretty important. I'd thought Norway was in the EU, until I looked. 82.93.133.130 14:33, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Well...this is still debated in Norway. But one theory is that through history, Norway has been in union with both Denmark and Sweden, and without the full rights of self government in these years. When Norway became independent (1905) the capital was (still is) in the far south. Whereas the rest of the country was...in the rest of Norway. So alot of decisions were taken, and still are, by people not living in the areas affected, just as it had been in the union years.

And thats why people don't want to join.

(of course the Parliament consists of people from all the counties of Norway, but the feeling of "the Power beeing somewhere else" is still strong amongst a lot of people)

Black Metal

Still needs work

I've tried to fill in some of the obvious gaps but the article could still be vastly improved. Now that Kulturminneaar is coming up in 2009, I think it is important that there should be a sound article on culture. It would of course help if the Norwegians could create their own article on the subject in Norwegian. At the moment, you can only find culture (kultur) under Norway (Norge).Ipigott (talk) 17:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Brygge

That litteraly means: "Another notable example of wooden architecture is the 'the wharf' Wharf in Bergen, consisting of a row of narrow wooden structures along the quayside." "Brygge" is norwegian for "a wharf" so saying Bryggen Wharf is kind of pointless.. (the "en" on the end of "Bryggen" only means the same as "the" infront of the word in english in this case) I suggest that the word "wharf" gets a "(" and ")" around it marking that it is an translation.
