Google Books .it links

Is there a reason to be linking to books.google.it? It's an English article, but the .it domain forces Google into Italian localization. Disputed statement

Bad Article

Italy has one of the most rich and important culture of the world'history... this article is very disappointed and short. The cinema section is poor.. we should mention Fellini, Bertolucci, Visconti and others oscar-winning. The introduction is ridicolous: food and sport, is that all? The section about art? 70% of the world art is in Italy.. Literature: no mention at all?? The "italian literature" article is good, we should put references here.. Architecture: only the palladian and roman style? And what about the Renaissaince, Michelangelo's and Brunelleschi's works, the barocco period, the neo-classical one Next week, if I have time, i'll propose some improvements...

Absolutely. I have written an entry for the "Culture of Italy" section of the main Italy article. I'm hoping that it can be furthur expanded to include Italy's contemporary influence and culture, such as through sports and fashion. Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge of this, and as it currently stands, this article itself is hardly adequate to provide me a basis for beginning. Sicilianmandolin 05:57, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Music section

Does anyone object to replacing more or less the entire "Music" section with the existing introduction from the recently updated Music of Italy page? I think this will bring the music section in line with the other sections. Does Italian hip-hop deserve the same space as all of Italian sport and more than food on this page?Vineviz 22:00, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

There should be a section on here on fashion and clothes, since Italy is a center of tailoring and such.

poor article

i think this should be ticked as below standard. it's empty, and seems to be have written by an american with its need to mention un important american things which are completely irrelvant to 'italian culture' like baseball even giving its geographic locations and italian hip hop in the music section.

Offense to Italy

This article is higly offensive. I'm Italian, and my culture CANNOT 'be found on the terraces of many football clubs. 'Stupid italian people'! We brought civilization to Europe, but we are stupid! This artcicle has surely been written by an american that knows nothing of Italy. There is nothing about Alfieri or Pirandello! Disgusting food! Is an American, with his fast-foods, that's speaking! An American, that has not been formed in classical culture! There is no referrence to the influence of classical culture in modern italy! And what about italian philosophers? Dear friends

To write a couple of pages on "culture of Italy" is a daunting task. It's equivalent to writing an essay entitled "Brief comments on the Universe". I appreciate the "naif" approach adopted by this article, but this is taking simplicity too far.

Objection to removing piece about Italian families

I have lived in Italy for seven years now and based on my experience as a teacher do concurr most willingly with the statement made about Italian parents choosing to have one or two children. Even more important is the validity of the statement about Italian children being overindulged or spoilt. Italian children are brats! They are not to be blamed though, it is obviously entirely the fault of their parents who are just as badly behaved and, who themselves by practising "menefreghismo", convey to their offspring that it's o.k. to completely ignore and infringe on the rights, and to some extent the physical safety, of complete strangers. One of the reasons is defintely due to the wearying tendancy Italians have of blaming others for what goes wrong in their lives as a mechanism for ignoring their personal culpability! To be fair, Italian children are loud and rude but not evil or violent. Extreme assertion has IMHO non-reliable source

"It is actually believed that over 70% of the world's art, culture and literature is found in Italy." This rather extreme assertion is sourced to http://www.astheromansdo.com/modern_art_in_rome.htm . IMHO, this website fails WP:RELIABLE and should not be used as a source. Orphaned references in Culture of Italy

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Culture of Italy's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Erm, NO! There are other articles and categories for famous Italians, this article is about the culture of Italy, not the people that made the culture, there's a big difference there. A list of geniuses or talented people does not belong in the lead. You might want to add your contributions to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Italian_people. I find it bizarre to refer to culture without referring to people. I have added some contributions of Italy to Western culture and I had to add names. It's right and I believe you, but what you wrote implies that the modern state of Italy banned the death penalty in 1786. That's wrong because Italy did not exist as a country at that time, and the death penalty was implemented several times since then by successor states. There's also a copyright issue, as you need to put things in your own words, not just copy what the source says. Furthermore, the issue is out of place in the lead since there is no discussion of it in the rest of the article, as it naturally belongs in the Capital punishment in Italy article and Category:Human rights in Italy. I'm guessing that you are eager to show that Italians do not like violence/killing, a stance that is admirable, but proven wrong by history and the daily news. I feel the issue does not belong in this article, I'm therefore removing this sentence again. The mayor of Yurp (talk) 22:57, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

The Grand Duchy of Tuscany was the first European state to abolish the guild restrictions, and the first to adopt a penal code (based on the ideas of Cesare Beccaria) which included abolition of the death penalty (1786). Copyedit reverted

Johnbod, did you mean to revert my prose copyedit of the "Cuisine" section, or was there a misclick? I was mystified, as my edit was merely stylistic and you reverted quite a bit of poor writing back in. For instance, before my edit there was this: There are many significant regional dishes that have become both national and regional. Many dishes that were once regional, however, have proliferated in different variations across the country in the present day. It says the same thing twice over. I removed the second sentence (as being the most uncertain in tone and syntax; what's "however" doing there?) but removing the first and keeping the second would have worked too. You reverted the redundance back in, and other bits of incoherent writing that I had IMO improved, with an edit summary of "rvt-you're just wrong". That presumably referred to Slurpy and the IP as well as me since you reverted us all... at least I think you did... actually, I'm having trouble figuring out quite where you reverted to, and I've got bored clicking through the history. But the bulk of your revert was of my copyedit. I see Slurpy has now re-reverted, referring to lack of consensus. Thanks, I think that's an improvement. For your information and delight, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Spelling/Words ending with "-ise" or "-ize" discusses the vagaries of Oxford spelling which looks alien to most of the UK and to computer spellcheckers (Mac OS anyway). Currently the language map caption includes "Understood by some due to former colonisation" which is ok by me, an option might be "Understood by some, in former colonies". . . dave souza, talk 13:02, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

I'm well aware of that, as a natural Oxford speller myself (like, I rather think, most big English content writers here). The trouble is that a high proportion of American editors think only -ise is British English, and once they see an -ize, many feel entitled to Americanize the whole article. Ehr, the article says "Additionally, there are fifteen publicly owned theaters and numerous privately run ones in Italy.".
