Classically the work of [Multatuli]] (popularly known as Max Havelaar) was one of the causes of domestic resistance against the system. (often debated though if Multatuli really intended that, or was mostly seeking restoration of his reputation).

The text reads strange since it seems to suggest a 1892 work by Henry Scott Boys lead to the abolition in 1870. Must have been timetravel 2001:982:8522:1:A85B:EB59:F162:BE8D (talk) 12:13, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
