This process was installed and running on a brand-new Dell D830 laptop that had never been associated with Microsoft Office, so evidently its used by more than just MS Office... Zaphraud (talk) 09:35, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
In my case, ctfmon did not go away until both Language bar and text services were disabled (in intl.cpl) and it was removed from startup in msconfig (I used the System Startup tool in SpyBot).
