Things getting obsolete

There are some things on the page that are getting obsolete since much of the repairs by the Forest Service and volunteers have been done while other things are no longer entirely true. Deer Flats has been cleaned up, for example, though it remains closed to verhicle traffic.

There are also 3 cabins that the caretaker up there can rent out which is not mentioned however there was one "unsigned" person who complained that the Wiki page looked like it was advertising so the wording of the article should probably be examined to see why that person thought so. I asked for specifics and did not get an answer.

For the record, I'm an unpaid volunteer that swamps out the toilets, collects and hauls trash, puts out the simple fires, assists with medical emergencies, injuries, fatalities, drunk drivers, removes spray paint, but first and foremost I work on maintaining some 110 miles of hiking trails, I am not the care taker up there that maintains the small cafe which the unsigned individual implied was using the page as advertising.

Any way, the article is falling in to inaccuracy so editors who are plugged in to the Crystal Lake volunteer arena, or USFS employees might be motivated to correct things here a little more, please. Damotclese (talk) 14:37, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

I updated a few things. The cabin rentals are still going, I noted that the phone number for the cafe up there is the same number for the cabins. It's the same phone number for personal reports of conditions though a better one for that would be the Visitor Center. Kitchen and Store section

Yeah, after reading the Kitchen and Store section I can see why someone thinks it sounds like advertising. It's rather difficult to describe a store without it sounding like advertising however I'll rework it, some of the information is not relevant, it's enough to describe in more general terms what the store offers, no need to get in to such details as is currently in the text.

I'll rework the text today, par it down considerably, though I should add something about cabin rentals. I should look to see other Wiki pages on other National Forest campgrounds to see how those are described. We do need to avoid appearances of advertsing. Damotclese (talk) 14:45, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

I think that if the section included menu stuff, it might look like advertising, but nothing I read here comes close to advertising. The original text going back had some sections that might have been pulled from brochures decades ago, but the current version looks fine, maybe some things are obsolete. In fact a photograph of the visitor center and cafe as it looks today would be nice to see. SoftwareThing (talk) 02:02, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Request For Comments

Would someone please examine the Kitchen And Store section and offer a third party opinion on whether the newly-reworked section eliminates any hint of advertising? There was a January 2013 comment by an unsigned that suggested the text was written by the caretaker at the Recreation Area so I simplified and reworked the text, now I want to see what someone else thinks about the new wording. Lake elevation 5,539 feet

The recent change to the elevation of the lake itself is wrong, the elevation is 5,539 according to USGS sighting and place markers and according to GPS. Damotclese (talk) 15:47, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

I fixed that, the lake elevation is actually around 30 feet lower than the primary parking lot of the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center's elevation sign has been stolen however the Geologic Survey places it at 5,539 feet. SoftwareThing (talk) 01:57, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Five years obsolete

Yes, a number of things are obsolete. If nobody else volunteers to update the article here, I will make an effort this evening. Only loops A, B, C, and occasionally D are open, though on major hilidays the USFS opens up some of the other loops and toilets. Overnight camping fees should be added, phone number for the Visitor Center is probably not a good idea but the number for the cafe up there is probably a good idea. Numerous other things. Officially closed to camping

Right now camping is closed for the duration of SASR2-CvD-19. The extant article should PROBABLY point that out at the top. I know that the htp://ww.crystallake.name we sbite which covers the campgrounds do not have a big splash page noting the fact however the USFS has closed all campgrounds for the duration, including the local Colbdrook Campground and Glenn Campground near Cogswell Dam.
