Alright, well I've made some progress on this page. I redirected it from Crowned eagle(note no capital letter in Eagle) and have begun some important improvements, including the adding of the information frame and the creation of a specialised Conservation Status template (see Template:StatusConservationDependent). I've also changed some important facts and data that I deemed inaccurate.

I have requested the use of a private photograph by contacting an internet user via email. I will promptly upload the photograph if and when courtesy rights are granted.

If sources are required I will provide them :P

More revamping

Today continued the revamping process. Found a map on Commons, very handy. Have queried a number of internet photographers via email, hoping to get permission for a photo to be used on this page. Human child's skull found in nest

It's hard to know for sure but I would guess that this was written in confusion with the 2006 assertion that the fossil hominid known as the "Taung Child" was killed by a bird of prey by comparing it to other primate skulls known to have been killed by birds of prey. I recommend this section either be removed or have this cautionary included in the article. Digsdirt (talk) 21:47, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Disambiguation

There was indeed some ambiguity present causing this bird to be confused with the South American Crowned Eagle. A user went so far as to refer to this bird as a Hawk-Eagle, ironic considering that name is intended for disambigation only.

I have clarified the issue by adding some disambiguation messages atop both pages, including the one I've newly created for the South American Crowned Eagle. Well that's that; I hope this resolves the confusion. The messages are coherent enough. TydeNet 05:55, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Giant dwarf crocodile?

"...and the recently extinct giant dwarf crocodile Crocodylus robustus..."

While I do find this extremely funny, I think it may be in need of a change. How can an animal be a giant and a dwarf at the same time? 71.217.98.158 21:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't know this specific crocodile, and therefore cannot say if "dwarf" or "giant" is appropriate, but as it is of no real importance in this article, I have simply removed "giant dwarf". 212.10.94.88 (talk) 09:40, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

photo in taxo-box

Someone should go ahead and request that the present photo, a juvenile, be deleted. The copyright highly questionable (Uploaded as I find this useful...!!!), and out of a total of five photos uploaded to wikipedia by this user, three have already been deleted. Furthermore, this specific photo blocks an arguably far more useful photo (with the same file-name) of this species on wikimedia commons. 212.10.94.88 (talk) 09:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Biometrics

The Wingspan is INCORRECT - the wingspan 1.5–2.1 m (4.9–6.9 ft) which only means that the Crowned eagle has a longer wingspan than the much larger Forest eagles Harpy and Philippine eagles which could only reached to 6.7 ft or 2 meters on average. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Informaticz (talk • contribs) 13:22, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Plan to improve this article

Hi everyone. I am a former South African and in 2006 I constructed much of this page from scratch. At the time I relied too heavily on books and personal experience, so the article became dense and also a little bit unsubstantiated. I see some improvements have been made. At present I aspire to get the quality of this page upgraded. I invite any interested parties to collaborate. Since I have access to ProQuest, Nature, Ovid, Wiley-Blackwell, and other platforms for accessing peer-reviewed literature, I shall draw upon it heavily.

Probably bad information

There's currently a comment in this article about a white-tailed sea-eagle attacking a child (supposedly the only eagle besides the crowned eagle known to have done so). This cannot be verified in any scientific literature (it is cited to an old copy of the Guiness Book of World Records) but can be found with changes (location, bird species, name of child) in a book from the 1800s (John Wilson's "The Works") with the incredible nature of the girl's survival unchanged. It seems likely that this was initially an urban legend miracle story (in the older work the focus is on how the girl's prayers save her) that morphed to stay current. A more recent debate about whether reintroduced white-tailed sea eagles mght attack children never cited this story on either side and claims were made that authorities found no instances of white-tailed sea eagles attacking children in any country that they currently inhabit. I believe this claim should be removed from this page as it is probably nonsense and is of such a nature to require solid proof.
