Talk:Cross-country jump

Unverified edit

Why is the unverifiable tag there? Cross country is a VERY common term used amongst skydivers to describe this kind of jump. Its not like someone saw it on some book then decided to do it later. You cant really point a URL reference to 30+ years of word of mouth. --Skydivemayday 04:32, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unencyclopedic Tag edit

I dispute the unencyclopaedic tag for this article. It describes a style of a sport, much like downhill is for skiing. TheConsortium 18:36, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Likewise. I'm removing it. Skydiver 15:45, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I removed the large portion because an encyclopedia article simply needs to explain what the subject is. In this case, it's a style of skydiving. And while the story that the original author gave was very descriptive in explaining what can happen on a jump, and would be excellent for a website on skydiving, you won't find it in an encyclopedia, even Wiki. I've added some more detail in the article. I hope it's more appropriate than the part you removed. Skydiver 12:56, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Much more information driven. I like how it is like now. TheConsortium 19:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Importance tag edit

I've removed the "Importance"-tag.

An article is "important" enough to be included in Wikipedia if any one of the following is true:
  1. There is evidence that a reasonable number of people are, were or might be concurrently interested in the subject (eg. it is at least well-known in a community).
  2. It is an expansion (longer than a stub) upon an established subject.
  3. Discussion on the article's talk page establishes its importance.

I know there's a reasonable number of jumpers that are interested in cross-country jumps. Plus I've now established the importance of the subject by discussing it on the talk page. :P

Sources or references are a bit more difficult to find. USPA SIM doesn't mention cc jumps, and I don't know where else to look. Maybe an old issue of Parachutist or Skydiving? Skydiver 16:06, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
