Status of river edit

The cited source from the Lakeland Ledger, [1], does not say that the Crooked River is a tributary of the Carrabelle River. However, this site (page 8), states that the Crooked River is a principal tributary of the Ochlockonee River, as does this site. This map shows the Crooked River entering the Ochlockonee River at McIntyre Launch. -- Donald Albury 01:57, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any map will show that the Crooked River connects the Ochlockonee and Carrabelle Rivers; it is, however, much more prominently part of the Carrabelle. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:30, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
But, I have found sources calling the Crooked River a "principal tributary" of the Ochlockonee. I have not seen any source that calls the Crooked river a tributary of the Carrabelle River. Dury (the only academic source I've found) calls it a tidal channel which can flow either way, making the connections to the two rivers equally prominent. Also:
  • Crooked River Lighthouse describes the Crooked River as a waterway winding between the Carabelle River and the Ochlockonee River.
  • Webb, Wanton S. (1885) Webb's Florida. Historical, Industrial and Biographical. "St. James Island ... is formed by a tidewater bayou known as Crooked River, which connects with the Carabelle[sic] River at the west end and the Ocklockonee[sic] River at the east." Page 51. downloadable copy.
We have to go with the sources, and the most reliable source is Dury. The Webb book, by itself, would be somewhat weak, but it reinforces what Dury says. The web sites calling the Crooked River a tributary of the Ochlockonee (which really count as one source, as they use the exact same wording) don't have the same authority. The Lakeland Ledger article, which refers to the Crooked River only tangentially, does not address the status of the Crooked River, and does not qualify as a reliable source about that status. -- Donald Albury 12:03, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
