Punishment for Mercy

edit

I noticed that "For their hesitation in killing the children, God punished the Israelites with a plague [7]. " was deleted, with the comment "not sourced". Telpardec, did you noticed the [7]? Can't see how you could miss it. That IS the source. Its a ref to the bible. And not any ref, its a ref to a sentence directly following the sentences describing the events in question. If I'm not very much mistaken, WP is NOT supposed to be censored. Material is not supposed to be deleted just because someone doesn't like what it says. Here's the DIFF, and the text there says: "For their hesitation in killing the children, God punished the Israelites with a plague <ref>Num 31:16</ref>"
Numbers 31:16 was talking about the plague back in chapter 25, not the current situation in chapter 31, so that reference did not support the statement, therefore the added statement amounted to unsourced OR/synthesis without a secondary source for the deviation from the primary source. See the revised 2nd paragraph in the Midianites section, which was expanded to include Num.31:16 and background.
Thanks. —Telpardec  TALK  06:38, 15 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Gosh darn it, you are right. I'm wrong. Pronoun trouble. "These" ref to the midiante women who where spared, NOT the act of sparing them. My apologies for my misplaced accusation and bad manners. Steve kap (talk) 21:50, 15 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
