Talk:Crime Victims' Rights Act

List Corrected edit

The person who created this article seriously misstated the rights, with the result that some of them were just plain wrong. The key word "reasonable" was missing from many of the rights, e.g., a crime victim does not have "a right to protection from the accused" but has a right to be reasonably protected from the accused. If the request for protection is not reasonable (such as a Secret Service detail accompanying you to the Bahamas while the perpetrator is still in prison), it can (and will) be denied. Similarly, the right to a fair and speedy trial attaches to criminal defendants not to crime victims. Crime victims have a right to proceedings that are free from unreasonably delay. Nota Bene: There is no right to proceedings that are free from reasonable delay but only a right that the proceedings shall be free from unreasonable delay.

I corrected the text by re-listing the rights as they are actually enumerated in the legislation.
