"In 2007, a survey by Sweeney Sports found that 52% of the Australian public have an interest in cricket, second to none."
"In 2007, a survey by Sweeney Sports found that 59% of the Australian public have an interest in cricket, second to none."

I have edited the first statement to reflect the cited evidence and removed dead ref at http://www.sweeneyresearch.com.au/newsPDF/news_pdf_16.pdf

The existing reference to Sweeney Sports in 2007 clearly states cricket is 4th with 52%, behind tennis, swimming and Australian rules. There are many other Sweeney reports and there was one earlier in 2007 that may have placed cricket first but it really needs a valid cite, or even better updated statements reflecting current trends instead of five years ago. According to this release, Sweeney's Dec 2008 report showed cricket 4th again with 51%, behind tennis, swimming and Aussie rules. According to this ATP press release, the Winter 2009 report showed tennis still number 1. In Sydney's Daily Telegraph on May 14 2011, Malcolm Conn said that cricket was now number 1 according to a Sweeney Research survey, but he did not elaborate. See alsos / further reading edit

Maybe - I've added a hefty wack of see alsos and some real books to further reading - we need some more substance to justify the tail end weight! SatuSuro 02:54, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have a bit of a pet hate about "see alsos" - I'd much rather the links be in the article body itself - but in this case they are good as they are a reminder as to where else we need to expand - in this case, women's cricket, Australia A teams, notable players, etc. Hopefully once these sections are all complete we can move the links into the new section which should focus on the specific area. -- Chuq 05:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Test Status edit

There was no ICC established in 1877 to confer test status, nor were the matches considered as "tests" at the time. Tests and test status evolved over time. While it is true that Australia and England were the first two test playing teams, this section is not accurate in its current form but I am not sure of the best way to reword and still clearly express the thought. Any ideas? --Mattinbgn/ talk 05:57, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good point - the information in the paragraph I grabbed from Test cricket#Test cricket playing nations. I re-worded it slightly which is how the inaccuracies may have crept in. -- Chuq 06:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Women's Cricket edit

Any serious discussion of Cricket in Australia needs to discuss Women's cricket. I am struggling to find details even on the Cricket Australia site.--Mattinbgn/ talk 04:22, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

If anyone knows of any suitable images for the article, please add them.--Mattinbgn/ talk 09:57, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow, that was quick. Great work! --Mattinbgn/ talk 11:05, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No worries, theres a few others at commons:Category:Cricket and on some of the individual player & season articles. --Astrokey44 11:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi guys, hope my Bellerive panorama isn't out of place at its present location! -- Chuq 22:25, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Addtional sections needed edit

We really need two more sections, "playing venues" and "notable cricketers". With the second one, what should be the criteria for inclusion? -- Chuq 22:25, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Membership in the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame with a link to that article in the section. We could then remove that link from the see also list. There are no women inducted at present but some should be added to the article, perhaps Karen Rolton, Belinda Clark and Betty Wilson are notable enough for inclusion. --Mattinbgn/ talk 22:45, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

History of the Australian cricket team edit

There is an article, History of the Australian cricket team, that significantly overlaps some of the content here and could possibly be integrated.--Mattinbgn/ talk 04:51, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Participation edit

Participation stats - a little out of date but best I have.--Mattinbgn/ talk 05:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bellerive Oval Image edit

Am I the only one who thinks that this image's presence just below "Women's Cricket" seems to imply that it's from a women's game? As much as I'd like to say it's a possibility, the large crowd would seem to rule out the possibility that it's a women's game that's being photographed.

It's a good image, perhaps it could be moved elsewhere?

Lankiveil 12:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

I agree it could seem that way. It is a great image however and I think it should stay. I have moved it to a the One Day section and moved the existing picture in that section to the history section. Let me know if you think that is still out of place. --Mattinbgn/ talk 06:30, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just to reply to Lankiveil's comment, I took the photo (or rather made the image from a series of photos) and it was at an Australia vs New Zealand one-day game from January 2007. Yes, men's cricket! -- Chuq (talk) 07:25, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
