I'm currently researching this article. I'm trying to have certain documents cleared by the national archives. They're slow to respond. Factoid Killer 03:05, 25 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Confusing English

edit

I am not quite sure what this sentence means: In 1970, the Commonwealth Government proceeded to resume land on the island for the purpose of upgrading the airport.

I presume this is "Australian English" for something like, "In 1960, the Government of Australia started to purchase land on the island to upgrade the airport".

It might be better to write this so it was more easily understood.---Filll (talk | wpc) 04:59, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not sure if it is Australian English or not, but here "resumes" means the government forces you to give up your land and pays you compensation. It's not that they purchase land that is for sale. I'll think of a better way to say it. Kerry (talk) 08:59, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
