IMDb

Heffner000, please stop changing the IMDb number for Cr1TiKaL. I get that pages can duplicate and get confusing, but this is White’s only IMDb page. Also, it’s not always true that YouTuber IMDb pages use their alias as their name. For example, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, PewDiePie, LazarBeam, etc. use their personal IMDb pages with their real names as their Wikipedia external links for their IMDb pages. This article desperately needs protection, NOW!

People keep vandalizing this article, declaring its need for protection. Citation format

I made a minor edit to the article asking what everyone thinks of a more proper citation format I implemented; instead of White's channel name being in the "work" section, I put his real name and his channel name (White, Charles, Jr. [penguinz0]) in the "author1" section. I saw this on Steve Terreberry and ImJayStation, so I figure I can probably also use this format on this article as well. Penguinz0

There is currently an edit war going on between me and another editor. Via several sources, I have seen proof that penguinz0 is not one of White's aliases, including news article quotes along the lines of; "Cr1TiKaL, the mastermind behind the penguinz0 YouTube channel"; which only proves my point. I have also provided a quote in a source that proves that penguinz0 is not one of White's aliases. First you said that it was not one of his aliases, which it is.You are going by some unverified article whereas iam going by what he himself said. Now you are saing that it should not be included because he is not known as penguinz0,when penguinz0 is more google searched than Cr1TiKaL. I don't understand how I'm in the wrong here. I'm trying to prevent myself from getting another block, so I'm coming here for a consensus; can we all agree that "penguinz0" is not one of White's aliases, but only his YouTube channel name? Let's not start from a conclusion - that only further heats up the conflict that has led to editors being blocked for edit warring, but thank you for engaging in the conversation. As I understand it, the issue is whether penguinz0 is one of Cr1TiKaL's aliases or not. We should follow what reliable sources say about the names that Cr1TiKaL uses, ideally third party sources. What we have now doesn't allow us to fully answer the question:

• There is this YouTube video where Cr1TiKaL said: "...why is my YouTube channel name "penguinz0" when I call myself "Cr1TiKaL"?... when I made this account a long time ago... I just chose my favorite animal... I changed my gamertag on Xbox Live to "Cr1TiKaL", so I started calling myself "Cr1TiKaL" in the commentaries. And I—I just really liked the name "Cr1TiKaL", so I've kept it." This seems to indicate that penguinz0 was his channel name, rather than his name, but this is a primary source and is somewhat ambiguous

• User:Bobby690 (currently blocked) makes the case that "penguinz0" has more search results in Google than Cr1TiKaL's other names. This is true: searching for penguinz0 generates 915,000 results while Cr1TiKaL has 212,000 results. However, counting google search results is a crude tool - a lot of the results in both cases are nothing to do with the subject of this article, so the counts aren't definitive evidence of the relative popularity of those names. They also don't answer the question of whether penguinz0 is an alias for Cr1TiKaL.

My first point: I found a source that is already used in the article, and here is what it quotes:

"Charlie's nick on YouTube is Penguinz0, Cr1tikal is his second username for other platforms."

• "Charlie's nick on YouTube is Penguinz0." - On YouTube; just that one platform, not anywhere else.
• "Cr1tikal is his second username for other platforms." - White goes by Cr1TiKaL, MoistCr1TiKaL, and BigMoistCr1TiKaL more than any other names.

This source has been used in the article for months now, so I'm assuming it's probably usable for this argument.

My second point: Very few sources would refer to him as penguinz0; they prefer to use Cr1TiKaL and MoistCr1TiKaL.

This is my evidence to support that penguinz0 is not one of White's aliases. Here is what I would do; keep the primary source and its quote, but use a secondary source to back up that primary source. Let me know what you think. KullyKeemaKa (talk) 21:06, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

@KullyKeemaKa: there are also sources that support penguinz0 being one of his aliases, for example: [1], [2], [3], [4]. Some of these illustrate the confusion between channel name and White's name(s), but they all use penguinz0 as an alias to some extent.

My conclusion from looking into these is that because reliable sources like Newsweek and the Irish Independent do use penguinz0 as his alias, we should probably include it in the alias field of the infobox, properly sourced in the article. @Laplorfill: You make several good points. While penguinz0 isn't one of White's official aliases, I guess we can call it one of his "side" aliases. I will change the note, but instead of "it is not one of his aliases", I will use "it is not one of his official aliases". I will also use a secondary source I used here to back that up. @KullyKeemaKa: I'm not very familiar with Cr1TiKaL but i decided to watch the video that was cited and in it he explains that Cr1TiKaL was the name he adopted later on when he changed his gamer tag. He never talks about penguinz0 not being one of his official aliases and from what i can understand it was his only alias before Cr1TiKaL. So if this note is added then it is nothing more than unsourced fan speculation. Whereas it being derived from penguins is something he himself mentions in the video. Also i noticed that penguinz0 is not included in the infobox which the conclusion of this discussion was that it should be. So i will be adding that back as well. @PeakyblindersOMGS: In a podcast, White explained that he made weird usernames for fun, and even had one back in 2006 before penguinz0. I don't think he remembers the username, but his previous channel involved anime music videos. When he created his penguinz0 channel in 2007, he started making gaming videos. He only started commentary in 2010, when he gave himself the name Cr1TiKaL. Also, he doesn't go by penguinz0 on any other platform, just Cr1TiKaL and usernames including "Cr1TiKaL". @KullyKeemaKa: I think the main reason for that is that he created accounts on all the other platforms after changing his gamer tag. I checked and his twitter was created in 2011 and twitch in 2016. The note that you wrote should absolutely not be included as it is completely unsourced and penguinz0 is used as one his alias in multiple reputable articles as mentioned by another editor on this talk thread. Uhh… is it acceptable to have this many primary sources?

Hey guys, what's up? This was something I wanted to talk about a couple weeks ago but I didn't have the time to post this, so I'm doing it now. So I took a glance at the article a couple weeks ago and noticed the sheer length of it. Normally this is fine for most Wikipedia articles, and especially more so with more notable figures who've accumulated a significant amount of attention from mainstream media. However, when I actually took a look at the first few parts of Cr1TiKaL’s career, namely everything from the “Content Format and Style” to about “Twitch streaming and increase in popularity,” I noticed that a large majority of the references used in those sections come mainly from videos uploaded on Charlie’s YouTube channel as opposed to independent, secondary sources. I already know that primary sources and self-published sources can be used for “uncontroversial self-descriptions” about the subject itself, so long as the information is relevant and isn’t just a bunch of trivial facts. Usually for the personal life of a subject, primary sources would work in this regard. My concern however is that for the career of a YouTuber and especially that of a BLP, these sections rely far too much on primary sources to justify them spanning relatively long paragraphs. I’m admittedly not an expert when it comes to evaluating sources, but with the amount of info extracted from these sources, wouldn’t this constitute as borderline original research? Some of these sources don’t even exactly support the claims made in these sections. For example, this claim right here

“White's videos and content has evolved over the years. In the beginning, the channel focused primarily on performing glitches in shooter games, such as Battlefield and Call of Duty, and later gaming guides for said games”

connects to a source which is a link to his YouTube video “Gears of War 2- Avoiding Danger by Flying.” The video in particular is just a 1 minute no-commentary clip of him playing the titular game. While it does somewhat support that he played FPS games, how does this one clip exactly support the rest of the claim? How does this one clip define the entirety of his early content style? How does it support how his content evolved over the years? It just seems like you guys took videos from aspects of his career without even so much as basing it off of secondary outlets; it seems like they serve to imply a conclusion about the evolution of his career without really confirming how he evolved in a secondary source. Most of these claims in his Career section seem like they should be from an extensive article or biography written about Charlie in detail, not a bunch of YouTube videos from him. If a New York Times article about Cr1TiKaL used his videos as evidence to support these claims, then perhaps those videos can be used as well alongside the article. However, with how many sources on this page come from his videos alone, I’m almost tempted to add a “This article relies too much on Primary Sources/Original Research” tag on it. On a quick glance I do see that The Daily Dot, The Guardian and Kotaku have been used as secondary sources to support info about his career. But for every one reliable and secondary source, there are like five sources which come from his content itself.

@PantheonRadiance: While I also have a slight concern about the constant use of primary sources, I am a firm believer in using primary sources per WP:PRIMARYCARE. I agree, we should definitely clean up the "internet career" section, but...keep a few primary sources (per WP:PRIMARYCARE, as I said before) and don't remove too much. @L33tm4n: Oh yeah, primary sources are fine to use under WP:PRIMARYCARE, and especially for facts about his personal life. I was just concerned that parts of his career were described a bit too much with those sources, and that secondary sources which talk about his content should also mix with them as well. Bloated article

Hey i just started editing wikipedia recently but im a prominent wikitubia editor and i noticed that this article is written more like a youtube wiki rather than a wikipedia Biography of a living person in a lot of parts. Most prominent one i noticed is the inclusion of every single series charlie has done on his channel. I think that's unnecessary especially if there's no secondary sources to state and the only ones which had an impact on his career needs to be included as this isn't a youtube wiki article about Charlie's channel. As a long time viewer of charlie i would say they are funtactics, infomercials and among us(if you count that as a series). All the rest can be removed and this article can be made more slim. Also the "other ventures" section can be significantly cut down as there is already tables about his filmography and music. It can be condensed to just human media group and the citations can be moved to the tables. The article also goes into detail about skynut promotion for some reason with clue a,b,c which I don't think is significant at all to his career to be included especially as there is no secondary sources. @Jaconsarto: Though you can use primary sources per WP:PRIMARYCARE, I agree with your statement. Only include his best-known series; Moist Meter, Liquid Ladder, and Deep Dive respectively. @Jaconsarto: Funnily enough, this was actually a concern I wrote about a couple weeks ago when I took a glance at the article (see "Uhh… is it acceptable to have this many primary sources?") and I was mulling over whether to put a "Primary Sources" tag on it. It looks like @L33tm4n: cleaned up the article quite a bit though, but there could be more done.

On a side note, one thing I'm really skeptical about is whether he actually appeared as an extra in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. I'm pretty sure he meant that as a joke, seeing as how no other sources (besides this one which I'm not sure if they actually fact-checked this claim beyond just watching his video about it) have actually covered it. @PantheonRadiance: @L33tm4n: Moist meter, liquid ladder and deep dive i would say are the least career defining series. Funtactics, real series and among us are the series which have had a huge impact on his career and propelled him into popularity and deserves to be included, the rest can be removed as it mainly belongs in a youtube wiki rather than a BLP, except for moist meter as that actually has a secondary source. Discography section removed

I removed the discography section which was in this revision of the article. I had several reasons in mind:

• First reason is that Cr1TiKaL is not your standard musician who depends on music releases and performances to make a living.
• Second reason is that it made Cr1TiKaL's musical output look far too important relative to everything else he does.
• Third reason is that the one album hasn't been released yet, so we don't know how much media attention it will receive. Until it gets some media ink it is not important.
• Fourth reason is that Cr1TiKaL's songs are not really singles with radio release dates and airplay. They are just music videos that he put together to further his humorous posts. The media mostly ignores these songs, making them unimportant.

I found a review of the song "Skynut", which helps to set the song in some context for the reader. (It's better for the reader that way.) Anything else written about Cr1TiKaL's music should be done with prose in the article body. Binksternet (talk) 03:44, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

Hypochondriac?

Under the 'Early and personal life' section of the article, it is claimed that "White has stated he is a hypochondriac." The claim provides a citation to a YouTube video of his discussing health and fitness. I watched the video, but could not find any indication where White claims he has hypochondria or has excessive and unduly worry about having a serious illness. The video is timestamped around the mid-way mark, and the topic of discussion are different types of diets to achieve specific health goals (i.e. Keto and intermittent fasting). He does provide a personal anecdote later on in the video, explaining he was overweight when he was younger and disliked his appearance -- that's not hypochondria. If someone could give the citation a review to see if it accurately describes the claim, that'd be great. Otherwise, it should be removed. CremationLily (talk) 12:08, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello L33tm4n​, so you're telling me because "almost every article" has an early life section Cr1TiKaL needs to have one as well? I already mentioned why this format is better for this particular article and listed articles to show how this is a very common format on wikipedia: [5], which i'm guessing you just chose to ignore. The articles which have both 'Early life' and 'Personal life' sections are extensively supported by secondary/tertiary sources which this article simply does not have (i wish it did because i do think two sections looks better). In the split form the personal life section has mere two sentences and one source which is quite possibly a web scrapper site like the one editor Binksternet​ removed: [6]. I added this site to replace the horribly unreliable source that was there earlier: [7]. I'm still debating whether or not to keep this source for his girlfriend's name. I will tag Binksternet for his opinion as well. It also looks extremely bad for a WP:BLP when the very first section of the article is filled with primary sources all except one. Ignoring all of this i still do not understand why you keep bringing up MOS:BLPCHRONO in your edit summaries, because as per MOS:BLPCHRONO this format is absolutely fine. To go line by line, "In general, present a biography in chronological order, from birth to death", note "in general" not "must be" or "needs to be". Also by this logic shouldn't the girlfriend part be inside 'Internet career' section as it was in 2016 that they started dating and 'Personal life' section only comes after his entire career upto 2021? Second line, "except where there is good reason to do otherwise", which again here it is the lack of secondary/tertiary sources and content to support two separate sections like i mentioned in my edit summary. Third line, "Within a single section, events should almost always be in chronological order", this is part which always needs to be followed and this is not broken in the singular section format. I was honestly baffled by some of your recent edit summaries where you said stuff like "None of this needs to be sourced, he is an actor in these productions"[8] leading me to wonder for an editor with so many edits under your belt, if you even took time to read wikipedia policies such as WP:WHYCITE. But at the end of the day i digress, if you do choose to split the sections up again for some odd reason i won't interfere again like i'm doing now. No hard feelings, go ahead. @L33tm4n: I actually mentioned more than two articles: [9] and there are many more including huge articles such as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and William Shakespeare which do not follow the traditional WP:BLP format. Also articles such as Jacksepticeye and KSI are bad comparisons because their sections are extensively supported by secondary sources and on top of that KSI currently uses a combined format (even though there are enough secondary sources to support two sections). Shorten 'internet career' subsection titles?

Short titles for sections with long titles for subsections don't look good in the table of contents, so I'm looking to shorten the titles of the subsections in the 'internet career' section, but I can't really think of any simplified versions of their current titles. @L33tm4n:, maybe just 'Early years and content evolution (2006–2017)' and Twitch streaming and continued growth (2018–present)'? I don't it's possible to make it shorter than 'Internet career' especially with the dates involved. Jaconsurto (talk) 05:52, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

"Podcaster" in the opening sentence

111bbb assumes that "podcaster" belongs in the opening sentence. From what I have researched, this violates the "open para bio" policy; the first sentence should usually state, "3. Context (location, nationality, etc.) for the activities that made the person notable." As I explained in my edit summary reverting 111bbb's edit, The Official Podcast did not make White notable; in fact, the podcast itself has no reliable sources to support it. @L33tm4n: Thank you for starting a discussion. The reason I said it should be added is because the official podcast IS notable. It consistently ranks on Spotify and Apple podcast charts as one of the top listened comedy podcasts in many countries every single month and from 2016-2018 it was inside top #50 in America. It's still inside top #50 and top #100 in many other countries even today. Everything I'm saying is easily verifiable through any websites which track podcast data and charts (chartable for example). Secondly like I said in my edit summary podcasting is one of White's 3 primary occupations along with "YouTuber" and "Twitch streamer" and he has been doing it consistently for years now starting from 2016, even before he started streaming on twitch. So i think it definitely deserves a mention in the lead. I'm not asking to include actor or musician, those can remain in the infobox. 111bbb (talk) 13:46, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Charlie's full name

Hello, I was making some edits to the article and I noticed that in the article White's full name is written as "Charles White Jr." Now I've been a Charlie fan for a long long time and I have watched pretty much all of his videos and I have never even once heard him say his name contained "Jr." Whenever he talks about himself in third person he usually just calls himself "Charles White" or just "Charles" and even some of his videos contains his full name in the title (Like the video "Charles White in College") So I started checking all the primary sources listed in the article and to no surprise there is not a single video listed in the article where he calls himself "Charles White Jr." Obviously as you may realise secondary sources after the creation of the wikipedia page are unreliable here as the author of the secondary source will simply check this wikipedia page and copy his name from the article thinking its accurate. So at this point in time the only secondary sources which are reliable are the ones where the man himself was involved in, like when he gave interviews to publications. So I started searching the article for them and found the only ones are when he gave interviews to the press when his ball pit video went viral and in that article he is referred simply as "Charlie", no mention of "Jr." whatsoever. The only source I could find in the article from his school days is the maxpreps page about his basketball record and there he is called "Charlie White", again no "Jr." So unless the man himself comes out and says that his name contains "Jr." or there is a tweet or video from him that I'm missing the article needs to be fixed immediately. @HappyGoLucky7: I just found a video titled Meet The Future of eSports. At 0:07, White says, "And that future has a name: it's Charles White Sr.." Knowing him, he's probably being sarcastic, but I also noticed that his father set his in-game name as "Charles White". He may just never use the "Jr." in his name, but he could, in fact, be a Jr.. @L33tm4n: I'm 99.9% certain he's being sarcastic as in the video 'Moist Meter: God of War' at the 1:07 mark he talks about how if he has a son it will dumb if he names him "Charlie" as that is the same name as him and basically that he will use "Jr." for his son, that means Charlie is basically implying that he is not a "Jr.". Also I found more proof that can be used as a secondary source in the article, so in the about section of the spotify of 'The Gentle Men', he is written as "Charlie White: Vocals", again no mention of "Jr." and this is a secondary source that Charlie had involvement in the creation of. L33tm4n​, EthanRossie2000​: It seems that another editor has changed his name back and sourced it using a DEADLINE article (written after the creation of the wikipedia page of course), and to be honest I say let's just leave it like that for now as even though there is a lot of evidence that his name might not contain "Jr.", I'm not gonna lie I was definitely thrown off by L33tm4n pointing out his dad's name being "Charles White" in the game and him calling him "Charles white Sr." and the more I think about it the less I feel like he was being sarcastic. WP:RS does not concern with when the secondary source was written, so as of right now "Charles White Jr." sourced with the DEADLINE article is completely fine and not non-problamatic. I tried to link the actual video where he is listed but it seems like youtube is flagged. If you look at the final episode of the series he is listed in the credits, and makes an appearance throughout various episodes of the series as his two characters.
