This was all I could find: http://www.nkhome.com/rowing/coxbox.html --The Spith 15:36, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Added info edit

Added some info & started to organise but my knowladge is somewhat limited use of stopwatch etc. can prob., be assumed in the histroy seciton but don't know detials. Wariations on position & number of speakes probably exist as do methods of measering stroke rate (i'd assume something one stroks swivel but dont' know. Nate1481 21:22, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also should mention that a cox box could also measure boatspeed, if the boat is fitted with a speed measumrent device. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.156.42.129 (talk) 11:33, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is actually a different device, called a speed coach. Bassett42 (talk) 12:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should GPS based Cox Box like devices be mentioned? In particular thoes manufactured by In2Rowing —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.156.42.129 (talk) 12:03, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pictures edit

This article would be better w/a picture, if anyone has one. Cs92 17 November 2006

Maybe see if the pictures here aren't copyrighted? http://www.nkhome.com/rowing/coxbox.html --The Spith 15:36, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

im sure nk wouldn't mind if you had a picture on - its all good advertising for them, if not blag it - just edit out the nk bit on it and it would look like one of the generic jobies you get floating around.... not literally... allthough they do float.

If I can find my camera I'll take one when I go down the boathouse tomorrow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.232.228.174 (talk) 14:28, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

stroke rate edit

This contrib was deleted a while back, i can see why it might be considered useless. But i'v been rowing for years and it is a pretty good of describing how rate and strokes are affected.

"The rate:power ratio may be compared to spinning a wheel: you can spin it hard and slowly, or very softly and quickly."

198.35.1.230 19:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC) The explaination of why the stroke rating matters is incomplete. The best way to think about it is gears on a bike (high gears ~ low spm, low gears ~ high spm). However the stroke rating is extremely important to both head races and sprint races. The section fails to mention that. Also, a higher stroke rating can negitively impact the quality of the stroke in less experienced crews, thus slowing the boat. The unbalancing explaination is only part of the truth, and the full explination is too lengthy imho for wikipedia. I reccomend cleaning up this last part.Reply

Also the term "strokes per minute rating" is incorrect. Either say strokes per minute or rating or stroke rating. Also when refering to rowers, saying "stroke rower" is incorrect. He is called the stroke, or stroke seat. Any other rower in the boat can be called #man (ie 7 man or bowman) or #seat (7 seat bowseat)

Although I do not read Hebrew, one of the references in this article appears to be irrelevant. Unless someone else does something more quickly, I proposé to remove the link after further checks when I am properly logged in. 78.115.95.9 (talk) 07:59, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
