Cowley Hall

There might be some history with this, just up the road at SK333773, though I can't find anthing certain on the web. One problem is that it is a common name: there's a Cowley Hall near Uxbridge and also one in Darley Dale, Derbyshire which needs careful separation. Name, coal and charcoal

I've added a line on an interpretation of the name. The wl is not specific to this Cowley and WP is not regarded as a reliable source so a better reference would be good. Anyone know of bell pit activity or other, early shallow mining? Certainly went on at Dronfild Hill Top, but maybe Cowley is too low for bassetting? Need an industrial archeologist or at least a local historian.TSRL (talk) 11:22, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
