Merge proposal

edit

We have two articles on Artois : Artois as the historic French province prior to the revolution and County of Artois as, well, the county in a slightly broader scope. While I can easily see why articles such as those for Flanders should be kept separate due to its division between France & Belgium, this isn't the case for Artois, the province and county are one and the same, same history, same everything. I propose a merge as County of Artois (since the title is broader in scope than the French province Artois). Equendil Talk 12:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Strong support for merge. It is the same geographic area. These articles are not so lengthy that it needs to be split over 2 articles. Since Artois is unambiguous, the merge should however go the other way: County of Artois → Artois. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 14:32, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Surely - "County" has a modern meaning which is not a meaningful translation of the original "compte" - if that's what Artois was? To my ear, "County of Artois" is a nonsense, hence my vote. "Region", "area", "part", "province" or whatever would be acceptable, but not "County."

I'm moving this page to History of Artois, and Artois will stay as is. This discussion is 3 years old, so I'm being bold. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 05:18, 8 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
