Renaming the article

Renaming the article from "Replica watches" to "Counterfeit watches". As stated in the introduction, "counterfeit watch is a copy of an authentic timepiece bearing the name of a prestigious brand." We are talking about illegal products here - "Replica" is a weasel word or euphemism for counterfeit. --Eqdoktor 16:36, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Counterfeit suggests that it was made to fool the buyer. Replica not. So replica would be more appropriate here, I think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.101.76.122 (talk) 15:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Reads like an advertisment and proposed merger

This article reads too much like an advertisement for fake watches. Paragraphs like these are essentially unsourced WP:OR and appears to promote these illegal products. I will be editing these out:

Firstly a Grade One watch is a far better crafted timepieces, and uses genuine Swiss ETA movements. (not a Replicated Asian Copy)

Grade one watches are constructed using high grade 904L stainless steel which is of the same quality as used by Rolex Lower grade replicas opt to use a cheaper steel 316, which tends to have high nickel content, which is more prone to rust or even skin irritation. True Grade One, two-tone models actually use solid 18k gold. Full gold models have a heavy 18k gold wrapping or cladding and will even test positive for solid 18k under an acid test.

I will also be proposing a merger of this article with Rolex counterfeits as there is significant overlap (Rolex counterfeits being part of "counterfeit watches").--Eqdoktor 16:36, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

This article is not quite an advertising since readers ought to know that there are various types of counterfeit watches, and today it is quite difficult to spot a fake watch among the original ones, this mostly concerns people who are not aware about the features of a genuine model.

I think there is no need to merge the two articles because Rolex is the most copied brand and it is necessary for readers to know about Rolex counterfeits as much as possible. Merging Rolex counterfeits with counterfeit watch will form a huge article where people might get somewhat confused and/or lost. Thus is it more comfortable for the viewer to have two separated articles.

Its an encyclopedia article (ref WP:NOT) not a how-to guide to spot fake watches or an indirect sales brochure for fakes (eg: "some fake watches have high quality parts"). Some discretion is needed. --Eqdoktor 09:29, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Until just now it WAS an advertisement. I just removed a link to a scam replica sales site from the links section, keep your eyes peeled for more. Trailboss99 (talk) 17:45, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Merge with Counterfeit Rolex article

what is the difference from the "real" watch?

The picture of the "real" watch should appear together with the pic of the replica. Overvice, it has no sense. Why should the users make any difference between the "real" and the "Counterfeit" wathes?

  • Both equally indicate, that the owner is spammer, fetishist or has mind, vulnerable to the aggressive advertisement.
  • Both look similar: even if it is "real", the people may think that it is a replica.
  • The way of distribution (rolex messages) is the same.
  • Even the supplementary function is the same; both can be used as a time-measuring device.
