Talk:Corporate governance of information technology

Merge edit

I agree that IT governance should be merged here, and also that the text here needs signficant work - the tag is accurate. Charles T. Betz 17:27, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have executed the merge and an attempt at a redirect, after seeing no other comments on the talk pages of either article. Charles T. Betz 02:00, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

NPOV edit

Can we get some assistance from the person who tagged it NPOV? I have my own thoughts re: this article's challenges, but want to get some group process going here. Charles T. Betz 02:02, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blog edit

Can we publish a link to our informative blog on the respective subject line? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.110.74 (talk) 06:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, please stop adding your promotional vyomlabs.com blog link to pages. The guidance at WP:SPS and WP:SPAM is quite clear if you need help understanding why this is unacceptable.—Ashleyvh (talk) 07:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bunch of work; Deleted POV and cleanup tags edit

OK, put a bunch of work into that which I think addresses these tags. Being bold here, if someone disagrees then revert them back and please post specific reasons for doing so. Charles T. Betz 03:53, 4 June 2006 (UTC) qReply

thank you

Acronyms should be expanded at least once! ICT = Information & Communications Technology edit

I'm going to do a simple edit to ensure that ICT is expanded on its first use. This should be done with all acronyms as a simple courtesy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonywhite68 (talkcontribs) 14:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Copyright problems edit

This article was quite rightly tagged for copyright investigation in February 2010 for its resemblance to [1] and [2]. Investigation, however, reveals that the content in question was on Wikipedia before it appeared in either source.

With respect to the book source, [3], the sentence "There are narrower and broader definitions of IT governance" was introduced onto Wikipedia here on June 2006. The book was published by the CRC Press in 2009. We can see that the 2006 Wikipedia editor was creating a cohesive whole out of previous material, and the following quote - to AS8015 - is not yet there, having been introduced several months later, in October 2006.

The PDF, [4], gives as its point of publication International Journal of Software Engineering and Its Applications Vol. 2, No. 3, July 2008. Looking at the sentence from our article, "A characteristic theme of IT governance discussions is that the IT capability can no longer be a black box.", which resembles the PDF's "A characteristic theme of IT governance discussions is that the IT capability can no longer be a black box", this entered into our article in June 2006. At that point, our article read as follows:

A characteristic theme of IT governance discussions is that IT can no longer be a "black box," with board-level executives deferring to IT professionals due to its perceived complexity. IT's position is too critical, due to both its contribution to corporate strategy, and the risks it poses....

The PDF says:

A characteristic theme of IT governance discussions is that the IT capability can no longer be a black box. The traditional involvement of board-level executives in IT issues was to defer all key decisions to the company's IT professionals. IT governance implies a system in which all stakeholders, including the board, internal customers, and in particular departments such as finance, have the necessary input into the decision making process. This prevents IT from independently making and later being held solely responsible for poor decisions. It also prevents critical users from later complaining that the system does not behave or perform as expected

Much of the rest of this enters our article later in June 2006, but it evolves further with the introduction of certain key phrases over subsequent years. The phrase "implies a system" enters into the Wikipedia article in October 2006. The phrases "defer all key" and "independently making" enter into the Wikipedia article in July 2008.

On investigation, it seems that the authors of that journal article came to Wikipedia at some point after July 2008.

In the years I have been handling copyright problems on Wikipedia, this is not the first time I have seen a "reliable source" plagiarize or violate the copyright of Wikipedia's contributors. This is the first time I have ever seen two of them that seem to have independently done so from the same article. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:56, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

New framework for managing IT edit

Authors please take a look at www.ictstandard.org as it gives a clear structure how to manage IT like a business, also from a IT governance point of view. The ICT Standard for Management is a new 'open source' ICT Standard promoted by the ICT Stanard Forum. You can register and read all at no cost. I propose to add at least a link to the IT governace wiki section?Globaltka (talk) 19:12, 10 September 2010 (UTC)TK2010.Reply

The ICT Standard for Management confuses the topic of IT management with that of governance. It has little to do with IT governance and therefore not an appropriate reference for IT governance.
