Merge idea edit

The page Cork School of Music should be merged here, as it is just a constituent school of CIT. Stifle (talk) 13:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, no problems here, the CIT page could benefit from it. -Ablaze (talk) 19:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Since there was no objection over the course of 10 days, I've gone ahead and merged. Stifle (talk) 14:53, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Established Date edit

Anyone know what the exact date CIT was established? The article says opened in 1973 and established in 1974. The Regional Technical College article say 1974 as well. --Ablaze (talk) 08:45, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Very difficult to determine. Even a intensive check of the Oireachtas debates does not clear up the matter, and I suspect that the lack of clarity is due the college not been opened on time and/or partially opened perhaps off site (thats my impression of the debates). Anybody got access to the colleges or a public library in Cork, could be worth checking. Djegan 13:45, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

RTC opened it's doors in Sept 1974. I was one of the first lot of First Years to go there. The building project was way behind schedule - there were dumper trucks working up and down the main hall, there were 3 openings for stairs but only one stairs in place, kango hammers working all over the place. It was crazy and exciting at the same time. Immediatly it was realised that the canteen space was too small. During UCC college week that year we played them in a mixed rugby match in the Quarry, UCC. So, from the start there were friendly links with UCC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.95.82.1 (talk) 13:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

'Friendly rivalry' reference edit

In this short article, a reference was made to a 'Friendly rivary' existing between CIT and nearby UCC. However, this comment does not feature on the UCC article. In fact, the two colleges are located sevral miles apart, on opposite sides of Cork city, adn have very little contact with each other. I therefore suggest that this reference be removed. Dee101 20:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Djegan 21:09, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The fact is that there is a friendly rivalry between the two colleges. Cork is a small city, and because there is only the two of them, the rivalry exists. They have contact with each other with sports events and other events. Also a lot of people who go to CIT know and visit people/friends in UCC, after all it is on the number 5 bus route into town! Saying that they have very little contact with each other would untrue. --Ablaze (talk) 06:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

They are *not* on opposite sides of the city. They are on the same side; CIT is further out than UCC. 93.92.153.12 (talk) 10:12, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge edit

I think the two articles should not be merged. Would merging Cork School of Music (in its present form) overwhelm this article? I think so. Indeed if we were merging on the basis of article size then we would be merging to Cork School of Music, not that I am proposing that. In any case Cork School of Music is one of the few music schools in Ireland.

What would be an excellent idea is increasing the size and quality of this article, particularily on background and history. Djegan (talk) 23:02, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I definitely agree with Djegan that merging the articles would be a very bad idea.Afil (talk) 23:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think they should not be merged. Although constituent colleges of CIT, they have a different ethos to the main campus. Furthermore, the NMCI is focussed upon professional rather than academic education and offers a significant number of coursers outside of the CIT model, in particular, short professional courses to the merchant navy. In this regard I think the NMCI should be kept seperate in addition to the previous comment. User:Dave 24 June 2009 0137 UTC

so is the merge proposal defeated? ClemMcGann (talk) 23:21, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Additional Content edit

Is there a possibility of adding any of the following to the article? -Map of location of all the campuses, this could detail the facilities. These could be included in the revelant article, however the main campus facilities could be added to the main CIT article. -A listing of the research groups currently active in the Institute. -Include a section on the activites surrounding the application for Universit Status? See http://www.corkindependent.com/local-news/local-news/cit-applies-for-university-status/ for citation.

These suggestions were made based on content viewed in similar artcles. I also agree that the article would benefit from more information on the background and history of the Institute.

Robert Richard Scanlon. edit

The above person is listed as alumnus. This is surely incorrect since he was dead 200 years before the place opened. Hanoi Road (talk) 21:33, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
