Requesting help to cease non-NPOV disruptive editing on this page by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BottleOfChocolateMilk — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎ Beyawnd8 (talkcontribs) 21:33, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is no immediate need for admin action here. There is a need for some discussion, and I've started a section below for you. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

September 2023 changes edit

There's been a flurry of activity at this article, and it looks like some folks might need to talk out a few issues. Pinging recent editors @Beyawnd8, BottleOfChocolateMilk, and Nil Einne. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

In order to retain consistency with the way this page is categorized across Wikipedia (American Surfer), the infobox "surfer" should be used as the main template while the infobox "office holder" is embedded, not the reverse. This precise format was used for years until July 2023 changes by @BottleOfChocolateMilk. Changes that occurred two years after the subject had ceased being an officeholder and during a flurry of editing activity on her Wikipedia page that occurred after a public announcement that the subject had a new job. Additionally, replacing an outdated image of the subject with a more current image (copyright release in process) is amendable to Wikipedia guidelines. The change that eliminated the unsourced German ancestry (also made during the July 2023 activity) applauded - Thanks to @Nil Einne. Beyawnd8 (talk) 01:40, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

The changes by @BottleOfChocolateMilk were labeled as an 'active effort to vandalize my page', yet when asked to provide examples of the perceived vandalism, you posted asking for an admin on this page, which is somewhat confusing. It adds even more confusion when you have referred to yourself in the third person after stating in the BLPN post that this was your article as well as your account.
Respectfully, you need to disclose your COI and should refrain from working on your own page. This was pointed out to you previously on the noticeboard when @Nil Einne stated you had a COI and were exhibiting behavior that seemed to go against the WP:OWN policy. You have removed links in the past to edits that were negative in nature ([1][2]) but were reliable, and allowed others to stay from the same source that were positive in tone [3], which is not in compliance with NPOV and presenting an impartial article. Also worth noting, I noticed several sources that were included were either press releases, unreliable/unverified sources, or self published by yourself. Please see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, especially #4 - "This includes the requirement to maintain a neutral point of view, which can be difficult when writing about yourself or about projects close to you. Creating overly abundant links and references to autobiographical sources, such as your résumé or curriculum vitae, is unacceptable."

I am in impartial third party here, recent resident of the town that Cori Schumacher was councilwoman for. In researching the town, I came across this wikipedia page. I'm not sure I've ever seen a page so clearly edited by the individual (or partner) it is representing. This is more of a PR page than it is a wiki page. Additionally, her calling out and amending the edits of others is exactly what wikipedia is against. Is there a way to stop this moving forward? @Firefangledfeathers I do think there is some need for admin action here... I would look into the editing patterns and history of both the page and the user 'Beyawnd8', long before recent edits... CatLeash1004 (talk) 15:30, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I encourage editors to work on the article, including by addressing any tone/neutrality issues. I gave Beyawnd8 a COI warning, and hopefully they will stop editing the article directly. Let's try and keep conduct concerns to user talk pages and preserve this page for content work. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:40, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Appreciate the feedback and information regarding policies. Especially appreciate the participation of neutral editors. Wanted to flag the following from the Encyclopedia of Surfing, to address one of the "better source needed" flags by @S0091 regarding hiatus and 2008 win.

"After her second world title win [2001], Schumacher again veered away from competitive surfing... in 2007 Schumacher again embraced surfing and competition, leading to a US title in 2008 and 2009, and the 2010 ASP longboard crown." https://eos.surf/entries/schumacher-cori/

The entry is behind a paywall-not sure what the protocol is for use of the citation. Beyawnd8 (talk) 20:59, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Beyawnd8 thanks for pinging me as I did not realize there was a discussion here. Actually sources are needed for everything in that section prior to the "better sources needed" tag. For that specific excerpt, the 2011 New York Times article says she (you?) returned in 2005, "Schumacher now works as a waitress at Naked Cafe in Solana Beach, Calif. She still surfs daily and returned to competition in 2005". Although I think the specific year is a minor issue. At the end the day, she took a sabbatical then returned. As for the EOS, it appears to based on a reputably published book (About page and Google Books) so I think it is fine to use for basic facts. I will note though, "leading to a US title in 2008 and 2009", is vague (what title?). The three time world champ will be easy to source. The others, especially the earlier shortboard wins will likely be more difficult. I will do some digging as well. Also, I agree the infobox should be surfer, rather than politician, as she is notable because of her surfing career. Without that, she would likely not warrant an article.
