The last sentence (Ironically, by making the significantly greater diversity and quality of Western consumer goods conspicuous yet inaccessible to the vast majority of the population, the communist party elites inadvertently demonstrated not only some of the major constraints of a planned economy, but also the hypocrisy of their anti-Western rhetoric.) does not seem NPOV to me and I think removing or changing it should be considered.
