Talk:Copenhagen metropolitan area

Deletion edit

This is another article about the former administrative region The Capital Region (Denmark). The problem is that there is not single definition of the metropolitan area of copenhagen, it is always estimated from statistic to statistic. Only the Urban area has a somewhat formal definition (Urban area of Copenhagen) Carewolf (talk) 21:54, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Answering myself. The danish wikipedia had a nice map from Skov og naturstyrelsen (department of forest and nature). It shows both all the municipalities and the very telling results of the finger plan. Additionally the region is still in use as defining public transportation, what news stories the local TVs cover and as an the capital area considered by the department of forest and nature. So it is very much in use, even if it is no longer an administrative area. Carewolf (talk) 22:54, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

OECD-definition edit

According to the source, the OECD metropolitan area corresponds to Region Sjaelland and Region Hovedstaden minus Bornholm and Christianso. According to the OECD, this area had a population of 2.39 M as of 2009. However figures obtained at the statistikbanken [1] reveals that this area had a population of 2,440,878 in 01-01-09 constantly rising to 2,456,656 in 01-10-09. So: There are five possible answers to this:

(1) The OECD area does not really correspond to the area mentioned in their paper. (2) The figures are not actually from 2009. (3) Misprint. (4) Statistikbanken is wrong (very unlikely). (5) Some guesswork performed by OECD (but in that case, why did they write 2.39 and not 2.4?).

Does somebody have an answer/explanation to this? Nirro (talk) 10:58, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

If Lolland kommune is excluded from this area one will reach a population of 2,393,121 as of 01-01-09. If the whole of Lolland island is excluded one will reach a figure of 2.37M-2.38M. Nirro (talk) 11:21, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
The answer is (2). If you read page 34 they state: "Based on data from Statistics Denmark. Population data for the Copenhagen metropolitan region refer to the situation in 2005.". Anyway that area has a population of 2,490,499 as of 1 October 2011. The other figures are from 2008 though. But it´s a bit silly definition if you ask me.
