Cookstown, County Tyrone → Cookstown — I would like the article name Cookstown to redirect to the town in Tyrone as this is a much larger and populous town than the other two 'Cookstowns'. This would follow the precedent of Paisley which is also a town in the UK which as Cookstown, has other towns named after it in North America but is shown automatically when 'Paisley' is typed into Wikipedia. I believe that typing 'Cookstown' into Wikipedia search should show the larger and more well-known town in County Tyrone, and should then have a link to the other small settlements at a disambiguation page. History section

The history section is absolutely terrible. Most of it is pov and unreferenced. It doesn't read like a wikipedia article and is too long. Same could be said for the places of interest section. Think we should scrap the whole thing unless someone sorts it out? Derry Boi (talk) 14:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Unsourced material

The following is unsourced information:

• Cookstown is famous for its sausages, known as the "Cookstown Sizzler", which were advertised on television by Rolf Harris and George Best.

• Fictionalised as "Ballyglass", it is the hometown of the hero of Utterly Monkey, a novel by local writer Nick Laird (husband of novelist Zadie Smith).

• The local paper, The Mid Ulster Mail, is the biggest selling local newspaper in the area.

• In the film The Devil's Own, the character played by Brad Pitt claimed to be from Cookstown, which he described as being "on the shores of the Lough". Cookstown is actually 16 kilometres (10 miles) from the shores of Lough Neagh, only slightly closer than Belfast. It is possible the character could have been thinking of the closest town to his father's shoreside farm, though this would have been unlikely given that there are many small villages such as Ardboe which are closer than Cookstown.

• Jimmy Kennedy, although born in Omagh, grew up in the Cookstown area and was educated at Cookstown Academy (the forerunner of Cookstown High School). He is well known for the many songs he wrote including, 'The Teddy Bears' Picnic', 'Red Sails in the Sunset', 'The Hokey Kokey' and 'South of the Border'. He won numerous awards during his lifetime, and his name was entered in the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in New York in 1997.

While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Also, none of this is really trivia, as trivia by its definition is "unimportant information" - it therefore shouldn't be in a trivia section but instead the information should be incorporated into the main article. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) ^talk 02:25, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Bernadette Devlin

Bernadette is described as a "Republican political activist". I think this should be changed to "Republican Socialist political activist" since she was one of the founding members of the Irish Republican Socialist Party The word "Republican" by itself suggests a connection with Sinn Féin. Bernadette was one of the founding members of People's Democracy but was never a member of Sinn Féin Martinazo (talk) 06:54, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

There is a need for paragraphs on this page. I myself have edited it several times as the content was incorrect and displayed bias towards one side of the community. The information that I added has been removed and the page is now poorly written due to some people having nothing better to do with their time than sabotage what could be a valuable research tool.

Old names

The article should reflect that the old name for the area (in English) was Corrcreagh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.76.8.33 (talk) 12:31, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

It is the old Anglicised name for the townland which was where the first Cookstown was built, hence it usually being referred to as the Old Town area. The second Cookstown wasn't built in the exact same spot, or townland even, though it has over time come to encompass the "Old Town"/Corrcreagh townland part of it.
