Notability edit

The original version of this page was deleted by multiple admins for violating Wikipedia:CSD#A7 or Wikipedia:CORP. I have worked with the editors to craft a version that doesn't violate WP:CORP, and reached out to the admins to review the revised version of this page. Majority opinion of the editors and the admins I have worked with is that this page is now qualified to be on Wikipedia, since it is no longer a version written by marketing people. I would suggest checking the Portland Business Journal archives for more information to add/cite. Aboutmovies (talk) 09:33, 28 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Non-notable community involvement edit

Unless they're doing something out of the ordinary (and I see no evidence of that, e.g. they're not donating 5% of its profits to charity or getting media coverage) is their community involvement notable enough for the content in the article now? IMO, no.--Elvey (talk) 19:48, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Consumer Cellular updates edit

I just drafted some updates to the article about my employer, Consumer Cellular, here: User:Dominicartero/sandbox. I hope you’ll discover that I’ve made a sincere effort to source all the information and write in a way that honors Wikipedia’s core values of neutral and factual information. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Dominicartero (talk) 14:55, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have completed the the updates I wanted to make, generally bringing the article up to date and adding a number of new independent sources. I sought out some independent feedback at two WikiProjects, and go a little bit of response here. If anybody else has thoughts about this -- feedback, concerns, questions, etc. -- please get in touch. I don't log into Wikipedia too frequently, so please feel free to use the "email this user" feature to contact me directly. -Dominicartero (talk) 21:20, 8 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unsubstantiated additions edit

In the last couple weeks, a Wikipedia editor has twice tried to add critical content that appears to be based on personal experience, and unrelated to any independent reliable source. I have reverted it -- information included on Wikipedia should be verifiable and neutrally reflect information reported by independent sources. -Pdxrose (talk) 22:20, 16 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Consumer Cellular updates edit

I'm looking to make the following edits in order to update the page, complete with sources. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.Pdxrose (talk) 19:25, 24 February 2016 (UTC)pdxroseReply

Consumer Cellular's subscriber base has grown from around 30,000 customers in 2006 to more than two million in 2016 [1] The company currently employs over 1,000 personnel between its Tigard, Redmond, and Phoenix locations. A fourth customer support center opened in Phoenix, Arizona in 2016.[2] To celebrate their 20th anniversary and 2 million customer milestone, Consumer Cellular donated $2 million to the Knight Cancer Challenge on behalf of their customers in June of 2015. [3]

Thank you for the review. As no source objections were made by the community, I've made these changes live. Pdxrose (talk) 22:32, 29 February 2016 (UTC)PdxroseReply

I would like to propose the following update to the PC Mag award section:

In 2016 Consumer Cellular received the highest overall satisfaction rating in the mobile carrier category of PC Magazine’s 29th annual Readers' Choice Awards survey, earning the top designation of Readers’ Choice in the category, the same award that was given in 2014 and 2015. Survey findings also highlight that Consumer Cellular customers are more likely to recommend the carrier than customers from any other mobile carrier in the United States.[4]. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Pdxrose (talk) 18:32, 16 March 2016 (UTC)PdxroseReply

It was also announced that as of July 2016 Consumer Cellular would be relocating its Portland, OR customer contact center and corporate offices to a larger facility in the city to accommodate significant staff growth.[6]

A big ad edit

This entire article reads like it was written by the company’s ad department. Notwithstanding a slick ad campaign on PBS, no one under 70 even knows this company exists. I think this page fails to meet notoriety standards and should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:8480:46CA:755F:1FE1:B7EC:682E (talk) 07:44, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Updates to Summary section edit

In the interest of streamlining and consolidating the Summary section of this page, and removing outdated information, I propose that the following edits be made in their entirety:

Consumer Cellular is an American postpaid mobile virtual network operator founded by John Marick and Greg Pryor in October 1995[1]. The company offers cellphones, no-contract cellphone plans, and accessories with a focus on users age 50-plus. Including its corporate headquarters in Portland Oregon, Consumer Cellular is completely U.S. based, employing more than 1,800 people at two additional locations in Phoenix, Arizona [2] and a support center in Redmond, Oregon [3].

Consumer Cellular provides wireless service using network capacity from AT&T and T-Mobile and also resells AT&T wholesale wireless services to other virtual operators. The company has been included on the Inc 5000 list as one of America’s fastest growing companies every year since 2009 [4]. In 2018, the company announced that it had reached three million subscribers [5].

Any feedback is welcomed. Pdxrose (talk) 21:28, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Pdxrose These changes are ok, they add needed clarity. [[Rmanski2002 (talk) 21:33, 30 October 2018 (UTC)]]Reply

Updates to History section edit

In the interest of streamlining and consolidating this section, and removing outdated information, I propose that the following edits be made in their entirety:

With most cell phone carriers gearing their services toward high-use business clients, John Marick and Greg Pryor founded Consumer Cellular in 1995 with a goal of providing affordable, service to casual mobile users of all ages [1]. In 2008, Consumer Cellular became a preferred provider for AARP members, becoming the first cellphone company to market extensively to the over-50 demographic[2].

The company’s first retail presence was established in 2011 with a partnership with Sears Stores nationwide. In 2014, Consumer Cellular was introduced in Target Stores[3], and in 2018 became available at select U.S. Best Buy stores [4]. In 2013, the company introduced a smartphone financing program called EasyPay that is available to consumers purchasing smartphones that cost $300 and up[5]. That same year, the company partnered with SquareTrade to begin providing cellphone protection plans [6].

Consumer Cellular celebrated the company's millionth customer in February 2013 by donating one million dollars; 100,000 to five non-profit partners and the rest to their employees. To celebrate its 20th anniversary and 2 million customer milestone, Consumer Cellular donated $2 million to the Knight Cancer Challenge on behalf of their customers in 2015 [7].

In recognition of reaching the milestone of 2.5 million customers in the summer of 2017, Consumer Cellular donated 2.5 million meals to feed families and seniors in need through the Feeding America Network[8], and to mark the addition of its 3 millionth customer in October, 2018, the company donated $500,000 to each of 3 charities selected by its employees [9].

All feedback is welcome Pdxrose (talk) 20:22, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Pdxrose Add date heading to provide clarity. Other changes make sense. Rmanski2002 (talk) 17:07, 12 November 2018 (UTC)RManskiReply

Edits needed to the Products section edit

In the interest of streamlining and consolidating this section, and removing outdated information, I propose that the following edits be made in their entirety:

Consumer Cellular offers reasonably priced[1], no-contract monthly cellphone plans with very simple cutoff points to offer flexibility [2]. Its cellphone selections include basic flip phones from Doro (of which the provider is the exclusive U.S. carrier) aimed toward seniors [3] as well as budget and premium Android smartphones from Motorola and Samsung [4] [5]. In 2015, Consumer Cellular also began supporting the iPhone [6]. The company expanded beyond cellphones in 2018 with the introduction of GrandPad, a simplified tablet designed for older users [7].

Any feedback would be appreciated Pdxrose (talk) 22:33, 13 November 2018 (UTC)PdxroseReply

Consolidation and edits to the Marketing and Awards sections edit

In the interest of streamlining and consolidating the Marketing and Awards sections, I propose that they be combined, and that the following edits be made in their entirety:

Consumer Reports subscribers have rated Consumer Cellular highest in the magazine's annual review of cellphone service providers 6 times. The magazine’s rankings are compiled from a survey of subscribers who grade carriers in eight different categories including value, voice and text quality, and customer support[1].

Consumer Cellular has been ranked by J.D. Power as “Highest in Customer Service among Non-Contract Value Wireless Providers, 5 Times in a Row.” The awards are based on the results of the J.D. Power 2016 V2 - 2018 V2 U.S. Wireless Customer Care Performance Study [2], which focus on the experiences of wireless service customers who made a sales transaction with their current carrier.

In June 2017, a consumer survey conducted by the customer experience firm Market Force Information named Consumer Cellular the favorite wireless cellphone carrier among non-contract providers for the second year in a row. Carriers were ranked in multiple categories to determine customer satisfaction and loyalty. Consumer Cellular came out on top for best value, best coverage, fewest dropped calls, easiest to change plan, and best flexibility, among others [3].

Readers polled by PC Magazine [4] ranked Consumer Cellular at the top of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards five consecutive years. The wide-ranging survey measures customer satisfaction with mobile phones and carriers. In the 2018 poll, Consumer Cellular was chosen as overall favorite mobile carrier across all categories of carriers.

Any edits would be appreciatedPdxrose (talk) 21:31, 27 November 2018 (UTC)PdxroseReply

Update 8.26.19 edit

Consumer Cellular reached 3.5 million customers in 2019 and celebrated with a $350,000 donation to the American Red Cross, so that should be updated under History. I propose the following update:

In August, 2019 Consumer Cellular celebrated its 3.5 millionth customer by donating $350,000 to the American Red Cross through the Disaster Responder Program. (17) [1]

Consumer Cellular was awarded "Favorite Wireless Carrier" by PC Magazine readers for the 6th year in a row in 2019, so the PC Mag section should be updated. I propose the following update:

Consumer Cellular has also been selected as “Favorite Wireless Carrier” by PC Magazine readers 6 years in a row in its “Reader’s Choice” survey. (29) [2]
