While preparing this article, I found a December 1932 JAMA editorial criticizing this committee. The piece refers "one physician suggesting that the report would go the way of the miniature golf courses," which I found odd since mini golf is both abundant and popular in modern America. According to the associated Wikipedia article, mini golf virtually died out during the Great Depression due to a lack of funding to build and maintain courses primarily for children, but the activity was ultimately revived once Taylor Brothers introduced higher-quality courses in 1938.
