This is clearly a notable activity, as original art collecting is an important part of comic book collecting as a whole.
Regarding research...at the moment, prices for illustration purposes (to demonstrate the difference between individual pages and the final mass-produced work) were taken from eBay. This may be suboptimal, but eBay is by far the largest original art market in the world, so referring to it makes sense. Again, the only purpose in citing prices is to give the reader an idea of the the relative value of the original art piece compared to its final version.
- Notability needs to be asserted and backed up with secondary sources...clearly notable isn't enough of an argument. Drawing the pricing information from ebay doesn't establish that the activity is notable. In general, a reliable source would be needed where the activity is the subject of the source (or at least discussed to some extent). - I agree with Cquan here. If you can come up with other sources talking about the practice (news articles for example, case studies), then it would have a chance. - I do think this is worth an entry and can I'd assume by backed up with WP:RS. Thoriwng a few things in while I'm nosing around but Rufus Dayglo is an artist who also acts as the dealer for a lot of British artists via [1] There is also the related issue of artists doing work to order as well. A lot of the trading goes on at Comics conventions. Anyway better start digging. (Emperor 19:38, 24 May 2007 (UTC))

I know someone is bound to have issue with that arguing some distinction between the two, but since the former is arguably more notable and clearly related, this may be a good solution (better than deletion). - I think it is distinct enough to warrant its own entry. Obviously there is crossover in the people who would be interested in this but there are various specific issues and concerns. I say we see what comes of the entry and see if there is enough of it for a standalone entry and decide on a merge later. (Emperor 19:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC))

Let me start over :-) I think I took the wrong tack with this article. I've redone it so it focuses on the actual object - the artwork used to make comic books, which has an important history (I've added references to the Marvel vs. Kirby legal fight over original art, as well as the collections of original art in various public universities). I've then made collectibility a subsection. FYI, this page is currently being discussed on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Comics. I've done some referencing.
Don't mean to sound argumentative...there are some unique pieces of data on this page that are not covered in other articles. If the consensus is that that information should be under the Comic Book Collecting page, I will not cry ;-) Afabbro 19:49, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Actually this is good...I'm a lot less concerned about "Comic book original art" than the collecting activity. The article still needs cleanup, but I think there isn't an issue with notability for the subject now. - It is looking good. Some minor concerns: The difference between comic book and comics (perhaps "Original comic art" might be more genera?) and the references just to Ebay don't really tell us much as the auctions disappear over time. Would it be possible to find a cached version or a source that covers it? Notable sales must have cropped up on someone's radar somewhere? (Emperor 01:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC))
