Colosseum edit

"Many experts believe that the name for the Colosseum is derived from this monument." Good heavens, what do the rest "believe"? --Wetman 04:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

False Link edit

The link to Zenodorus takes us to a genus of jumping spiders. Would suggest this be unlinked.Godingo 22:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Head edit

  • After Nero's reign, the Emperor Vespasian renamed it as the sun-god Helios (Colossus Solis) because of his dislike for Nero. -- he not only renamed the statue, but replaced the head of the colossus as well.

Image edit

Do any images or descriptions exist? Drutt (talk) 06:35, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

No. Even the exact siting is mooted.--Wetman (talk) 08:21, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
There are images on first century coins, search for "Coins Nero Colossus". Blueshifter (talk) 23:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rewrote Article edit

Brought in more info from the Colosseum article and the Domus Aurea article, plus a review on current research. Added TOC. For an image, this would be nice, but I couldn't find the source of the illustration to ask for permission: http://onchong.blogspot.com/2009/07/trivia-colosseum.html Blueshifter (talk) 23:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Confusion on the time when the statue fell edit

At one point in this article it states that the statue was probably lost in the 5th century, while it seems that Bede wrote something seeming to say that the statue was still standing when he wrote it (in the 8th century). Could someone explain this to me? 174.108.55.15 (talk) 23:05, 17 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Height edit

List of statues (section destroyed) claims height was 36 m. 85.217.38.115 (talk) 07:49, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Would be good to note that the scale of the statue was probably similar to the Statue of Liberty. Liberty is taller, but mostly because she has her arm raised. Fig (talk) 12:06, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
