Displacement of tribal groups by white settlers

edit

I think this wording doesn't reflect the reality on the ground:

"...the Arapaho and Cheyenne agreed to give up most their areas of the plains to white settlement but were allowed to live in their larger traditional areas..."

I think that the "agreements" were not so much agreed to, but were more in the nature of ultimatums which were, in many cases, forced upon defeated populations.

I'd like to see this reworded. I'm open to suggestions... Richard Myers 22:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Territorial capital

edit

This article states that Colorado City was the territorial capital 1861-1862, yet the article on Colorado City states that it was the capital only in 1862 (for about 5 weeks, and only unofficially). This contradiction should be resolved. Plazak (talk) 19:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd want better sources before revising the articles, but I suspect what happened is that Colorado Springs was selected as the location for the territorial capital in 1861, but that the legislature didn't hold sessions there until 1862 and likely moved the capital soon after due to civil war conflicts in the area. For example, see this. olderwiser 15:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rail transport in Colorado Territory

edit

Would anyone care to discuss railroading in the area? The territory was populated for the want of gold. Getting it off (and out of) the mountains took rail transport which came about the time of the transcontinental railroad. Greetings, Paptilian (talk) 13:46, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

References and Source material are now being added.

edit

The lead, now begins with a notable image of the territory as it was in 1861, source Jerome, Hall, Bancroft, others. Small snippets will be added per time period according to syntax now published. Anyone wishing to perfect manual of style should. Some lead statements are questionable, those I will patch with a proper source reference. Suggestion for a More Focused Article on the Territory of Colorado

edit

I would like to express my concern about the current content of the "Territory of Colorado" article. The article contains extensive information that is more relevant to the history of the State of Colorado rather than focusing on the Territory period (1861–1876).

To improve the clarity and relevance of the article, I suggest a more concise rewrite that focuses strictly on the history of the Territory of Colorado from its creation during the Civil War to its statehood in 1876.

I have something written, but before proceeding, I want to know if anyone else agrees? Abenhouston (talk) 14:02, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
